Subject: Karate Kid

Written By: Danny on 09/18/03 at 12:27 a.m.

Does anyone know the name of the guy who played the role of "the karate kid" in the movie by the same name (and the names of his girl friend and his nemesis-the blonde guy). What are they up to now?
Danny.

That is Ralph Macchio.  www.imdb.com is great for questions like this.  Do a search for the Karate Kid and it will show everyone that was in the movie.  You casn then click on those names to see what they have done since.

Thanks a lot dude! for the info. I really love that movie even though I was about 5 Y.O when it was first released back in the 80's ( I recently saw a repeat on a local T.V channell)

And don't forget, Ralph was in 2 other popular 80's movies.

He was one of the stars in The Outsiders, and was also in My Cousin Vinney.

I'm sorry Mr. 80s but My cousin Vinny was made in the 90s.
Karate kid is also one of my favorites(among Teen wolf and Footloose). I should get it in DVD.
Awesome music and a great story which brings memories back when I first saw it. I was 8 years old when it came in 1984 and couldn't go to see it in Theatre.

Yeah My Cousin Vinny came out in the early 1990's, I think it was in 1991 or 1992.   The Outsiders came out in 1982 or '83, before The Karate Kid's blockbuster success in 1984.  My Cousin Vinny was the last big movie I ever saw Ralph Macchio in, as a leading man anyway. Marisa Tomei and Joe Pecsi were in it.

Macchio was already seen as a has been actor by the time of KK Part III in 1989, so My Cousin Vinny in the early 90's was seen as his "big comeback movie", where he plays a young adult instead of teenager. After this movie Macchio just sorta dissappeared, probably doing made for TV movies or maybey a lot of direct to video stuff.  I think he became typecast as "the karate kid", and just couldn't escape the charater.

Sad too, like migi, Macchio and the character of Daniel LaRusso were childhood heroes of mine.  At least Michael J. Fox (Marty McFly, Alex P. Keaton) was able to keep is career going at a steady lukewarm pace.  Hard to believe both Macchio and Fox are both 42 years old, neither one of them were actual teenagers when they played their kid roles in the 80's.  They were both around 23 or 24.

Wow! it's so hard to believe that Ralph wasn't a teen when he appeared in "The Karate Kid" I mean he really looked and sounded like one didn't he? Anyways the 80's was certainly a good time for teen movies wasn't it?

Same here (brings back memories).  I was 8 too, but was lucky and saw this one in the theater.  I love the arcade scenes in this one.

Who sang the title song of the movie "Karate Kid part 11" It's titled "glory of love" (at least I think it is). Thanks Migi & Kevin for the info. You guys seem to know a lot about 80's movies and stuff.
Danny.

It was Peter Catera (from Chicago). Probably one the best songs in 1986.

Ralph Macchio's girlfriend in "Karate Kid" was Elizabeth Shue ("Adventures In Babysitting", "Cocktail, and "Leaving Las Vegas").  His evil nemesis was William Zabka.  Hope this helps!

The theme song 'You're the best around' was probably the best thing about Karate Kid. Who sang it?
