Subject: Help Identify Artist in 80s Song

Written By: RoryTate on 09/20/03 at 10:18 p.m.

There was a song back in the 80s (I'm guessing made around 1984-1986) called "Rain" (I'm pretty sure) by some artist named Michael ???? (not so sure on this, but I think his first name was Michael). After a lot of different internet searches I am having no luck finding the full name and was hoping someone here might recognize the song. My brother and I were just reminiscing about some songs (or rather, music videos) from our childhood, and this one came up. Just my luck that it has to have one of the most common names in song titles...Rain, bah. Anyway, what made the song most memorable was the music video, which included the artist playing his guitar against the backdrop of an oddly coloured sky, with the silhouette of a tree and a sunset way back in the distance. At one point in the video the whole background shifts and the tree comes in front of the sunset in a very cool "mushroom cloud" effect...the nuclear reference there is unmistakable. A somewhat simple, somewhat artistic, video. Any ideas on the artist's name and any other info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

'Fraid not. I already tried lyric searches based on my recollections but no luck at all. When the song entered into the chorus, it went something like "...there's...Rain...". The word rain was held for a long time. Other than that useless bit of info, I can't remember much else. It may have been "...there's always...rain" as well.

The Cult came out with "Rain" back in 1985.  The chorus lyrics were:
Here comes the rain
Here comes the rain
I love the rain
Here she comes again

The lead singer probably wasn't playing a guitar though but he would have had long black hair.  Let me know if you need to listen to it.

Don't worry about the Cult...I already have that song off of one of their best of albums. Good song, but that's not the one I want.

Ah, can close this one now...just had a good idea for a search, and surprisingly, up popped a name that seemed familiar. A few more clicks and I've pretty much confirmed it's a Canadian artist by the name of Michael Breen. Sorta had the feeling he might be Canadian and relatively unknown because of it... Anyway, thanks for the help to those that gave their ideas...if nothing else it kept my mind on the problem.
