I don't think Valerie Harper left, I think she was fired.  Her character was killed offscreen, usually when that happens, that's the producers way of getting revenge on the actor or actress that they just dumped.  This particular situation was really jacked up since Valerie Harper was the STAR of the series.  She wasn't just some background character.  It was called Valerie because it was about her and her family.  Then after she was fired it was called Valerie's Family, then I think it became either The Hogan Family or The Hogans.

This show was OK.  I remember watching it a lot, it beat the odds and managed to still survive without Valerie Harper as a decent sitcom with Sandy Duncan as a replacement.  It was OK, but I don't think I would be able to sit through an episode today.  It was a mediocre sitcom more on the level of Perfect Strangers or Head of the Class.

It wasn't a classic like The Cosby Show, Cheers, Family Ties, etc.

I think The Hogan Family was a was a cool, funny show. PAX aired reruns back in 1999 for about 6 months. it was nice to see it again. It's to recent for TV Land, and not popular enough for Nick At Nite. It probably will not be aired anytime soon.  :(

Why did they fire Valerie Harper??? money issues??  I watched it and liked it.  I had the biggest crush on Jason Bateman.. LOL.. I watched a rerun awhile back and thought it was cheesy. IT's funny how shows you enjoyed back then, you find cheesy as hellnow and can't believe you watched it

What's so "Cheesy" about it? Just because It's not crude, shallow, and undignified like most sitcoms today?

Mrs. Poole Ruled!  I love Edie McClurg!

FYI... Jason Bateman will be starring in his own sitcom called "Arrested Development" on FOX.  I think it debuts as a mid-season replacement.

November 2nd, specifically... I watched the pilot today and it is pretty funny, somewhat campy.  It's produced by Imagine Entertainment (Ron Howard).

Didn't that same guy, many years ago, play a different character on Days of our Lives?

??? ??? ???You know I'm not sure what was going on many years ago but i think John Black pretended to be Roman for a few years and the real Roman was imprisoned or something---someone else might know this. The show kind of sucks right now because they're going to kill off a lot of the older characters--why not just have them move or go oot of the country or something. It's really dumb what's going on right now.And why would kate need to bump off Abe when roman is also a cop and could find out the info that she was a hooker himself? She already told him something there's something bad about her past, and Roman knoiws it has to do with stephano.Cheers!

When I say a long time ago, I mean about 15 or 16 yrs ago cos that was the last time I watched the show!  I just thought that he played a character named Chris Kosacheck or something like that (don't know how to spell it) and he owned a bar - then he comes back years later to the show and plays a completely different character. ???

I just saw a show the other day about the $$$ that actors get paid.  They mentioned some of those that asked for more money and had it backfire on them...Valerie was one of them as well as Suzanne Sommers.

I very barely remember The Hogan Family.  Wasn't there an episode where someone's house caught on fire because something was left on in the attic?

Thank you!  I thought maybe a lamp had been left on but I couldn't remember for certain.  I was only about 4 years old when I watched that show!  :)

I remember this show.  It was actually a pretty decent show at the time.

Back in the early 80's I worked in a restaurant that is next to Universal Studios and had the pleasure of meeting Jason Bateman.  Of  course, at the time, he was a young teenager and a little hyper but still a very nice person.  I also had the opportunity to meet his sister Justine.  She was on Family Ties at the time and I can't say that she was as pleasant a person to deal with as he was.

Everytime I see that actress on TV, I always refer to her as Mrs. Poole, and she always seems to play a character similiar to Mrs. Poole.

^I've always thought the same thing about that actress.  The nosy, annoying neighbor character she played on The Hogan Family was identical to the character she played on Small Wonder and the late 80's movie she did with Elvira.

Holly cow!!!  Mrs. Poole gets around:

She was in a lot of movies...

I can't believe she was only in her 30's back in the 80's.  She seemed more middle aged and around 45ish.

Gives us aging Gen Xers that are approaching 30 some perspective,......to think that Mrs. Poole was only 34 when she did a lot of those shows and movies back in 1985.

Yeah!  She was the hilarious secretary!

"Well with your bad knee, Ed, you shouldn't throw anybody!"

"It's Mr. Petersen on line 2...do you still want his daytime number?"

I remember that show. I used to watch it all the time as well as Step By Step with Brandon Call. Jason Bateman was a complete hottie.

Who are they killing off? They already to killed Abe off. Why did they kill abe off anyway? Whats Lexie going to do? What about Brandon? I liked his character. I like the new Philip character. The Cassie charcher confuses me. She is smart but like nasty to other people.

Anyway I used to watch the Hogan Family when I was little. It was a good show. Not a classic sitcom or anything but good.

Cassie is going to be killed off already? She's only been on the show for 2 years. Thats like too soon to kill her charcter off. She'll probably use "Days" as a springboard to be on another TV show in a couple years. As who did all the killings will have to wait and see. Hope's charcacter  I don't know if she is being killed off yet. Yesterday's episode told me she might be killed off. This cost cutting move sounds like a 103.5 KTU(New York) cost cutting move which they eliminated a few members from the morning radio show a couple years ago. Also, "The Practice" which comes on at 10pm on sundays the producer of the show cut characters off the show as a cost cutting move too. I guess cost cutting in the televsion and entertainment industry is the name of the game these days.
