Subject: Name of Christmas Movie?

I have been trying to figure out the name of a Christmas movie that I'm guessing was made in the 80s. It's not totally clear to me, I saw the movie when I was younger and I'm trying to put the pieces together. Anyway, the movie was about Santa Claus going off to what you could call reality I guess? Mrs. Claus gave him some sort of cookies in a little velvet bag I think (possibly ginger snaps?) and he went to reality and was stuck there with no way to go back?? He met this woman who let him stay there on a cot and there was also a guy in the movie who had lost his wife in some way; either through divorce or death. He was a grumpy guy who later turned nice (I think he had dark thinning hair and was shorter). If I remember right, he had a picture of the two of them (or just her) that he was looking at in the end????
I know that could probably be a few films, I suppose. It wasn't a lot of information, but I hope you can help me out.

Any actors names you can recall? Or maybe another movie the actors might have been in? ???
