Subject: UNITED AIRLINES commercials

Who remembers the commercials for UNITED AIRLINES that were on TV starting in the late 80's? Everything about those ads was beautiful, especially the MUSIC-which,by the way,is Gershwin's"Rhapsody In Blue"! A lot of the ads featured the Boeing 747 and later, the 747-400! I've flown before, and being a passenger on a jetliner is AWESOME! There's nothing like the feeling of flying!

Even as a teenager I liked Gershwin's stuff.  I still remember those commercials today...

Hey, I remember, "Fly the friendly skys of United!" lots of smiling pilots, flight attendents, agents in spiffy uniforms.

Now that you mention it, yes I do recall the music and the general scene, altho I don't recall the 747.  Which is strange cuz it's the only plane we really love.  Altho never been on 1.

Here's a question - is there a way to book a 747 flight exactly for that purpose - to make sure it IS a 747 you get, period, and not some damn boring Airbus or 767?

My mother wants so much to fly on 1, they're all getting older (my folks and the planes), and I've dreamed of getting my parents a flight on a 747 for their anniversary.  But planes always seem unpredictable - and they're not usually advertised as to what kind of plane you'll take.  You just order for the trip itself, not the plane.

Additionally, we don't care about going overseas.  I know generally you only get 747s going out of the US, but are there any that go, say, cross-country?  My parents would be just fine to visit my brother and kids in L A, for ex.

You can see what kind of airplane it will be if you check reservations through any airline's on line revs or Orbitz, for eg.

I think on most online sites it will show you what equipment is reserved for a particular flight.  I also used to sell airline seats
and on our Apollo reservation system it lists the different planes.  A travel agent will typically have access to that.

Typically 747s are going to be used for transcontinenental/ international hub to hub flights (i.e.  San Francisco to Tokyo, New York to London, New York to LA, Chicago to Frankfurt)

Another way to get on the type of airplane you like-book thru a TRAVEL AGENCY. That's how I found out my Continental Airlines flight to San Francisco would be on an A-300 Airbus, the first wide-body jet I was ever a pasenger on. Sadly, Continental has retired their Airbuses, but the flip side is they are now a BOEING jet user, and they fly not only 747's but the 777(otherwise known as the TRIPLE SEVEN). The 747-400ER and the 777 series are the most up-to-date planes that Boeing manufactures!
