Subject: 80's Fashions R Coming Back!

Written By: Tonia Drain on 12/02/03 at 05:04 p.m.

Does anyone notice how the jelly shoes, hip hugging bell bottoms, Run DMC Adidas and striped turtle neck sweaters are back again!!  The men are once again refusing to cut their hair (wearing corn rolls, ponytails, while the women are cutting their hair off (which can always be reapplied with weaves and hair pieces ;)  I LOVE THIS ERA!!!!!!!

I never liked jelly shoes...my hair is already short...I have have lived once through 80's fashion. My rule, if you've worn it once...never wear it again. :o

OH GAWD!!  I'll CRACK UP laughing my bootie off if I start seeing teenage girls trying to cram 100 different shades of eyeliner and eyeshadow onto their eyes at once!  I used to do that and just thought I was the shit!  I recently had the extreme embarrassment of seeing a picture taken of me from about 1986.  It was on the memorial board at Grandma's funeral(of all places!) and I was mortified!  My husband couldn't stop laughing and and I looked like an absolute TWIT!  My hair was actually cut off from the top of the picture too!  It was too damn tall! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Cool!  But I thought guys primped themselves through out the 80's.  Then the grunge/skater look supplanted it in the 90's by looking like bums and destitutes.  :P

The girls I hung out with had long hair in the 80's.

I overheard some 15 yr old girls on the bus joking about their parents year books.  They made an interesting comment that despite how funny the guys looked in that era at least they tried to look good, and at least looked clean and shaved and showered!

So maybe there's hope for the younger generation after all!  ;)

Who wouldn't love putting on a pair of parachute pants nowadays with perhaps a pair of old school adidas with some fat neon shoelaces, of course. Now you are talking. Word! ;)

See, apparently alot of us have different experiences.  For me, that "big hair" (as most seem to think of it) did not exist on either sex, except for the "grits" perhaps if you want something predictable.  I hardly saw any "mullets".  While I did see long hair on both, and puffy hair on girls, mostly they all had short (or close to it) hair.  Girls put up their short/medium hair in all kinds of wild contortions - not just plain curls like the stereotypical "big hair" (which I mite add is quite a natural look, if a bit overblown sometimes).  Guys on their SHORT, close-cropped hair -and some girls, including me - used SPIKES!!!!! A`la Billy Idol!!

I always thought the 80s would be known as the era of spikes, that it would be connected to the punk look, but even those of the era seem never to have noticed or remember!!  To me, that was the overwhelming staple, besides hair puffed and whipped in all different directions.

This is what I hated most about the 90s (and even worse now - the super-grunge I-just-woke-up version of 70s guys) - guys looking like pure scum refuse.  While I critiqued too-long puffy hair and giant lapels and bellbottoms on men in the 70s, the flip side is exactly what was stated here - at least they tried to look clean.

The good thing is, surely, surely this stupid, ancient, scuz fad will die and maybe by the time those girls are 20, they'll finally have some more up-standing men to drool over!

God am I glad I dodged that bullet!

Bellbottoms have been in for ages now, and they belong to the 70s, I assure you, not 80s!  Altho, I still fail to remember any "hip-hugging" plumber styles in the '70s!

Otherwise, yes, I'll be glad to have the fun era back!

Oh those parachute pants. Golly, I do miss them. I also had jellies. How about those slouch socks? Those were the bomb.
