First car that came to mind for me was the Yogo too.  Followed closely by the Renault Alliance.  And coming in 3rd would be LeCar.

the whole chrysler K-car line. the cars may have saved chrysler but what crap they were. these things dominated the roads of the 80s and now clutter the wrecking yards.

Almost every American car from 1984-1989 was a piece of crap.

The ugliest minivans of the 80's were all the models made by the Japanese automakers, followed by the Ford Aerostar! :( By the way, 80's minivans by Chrysler-Dodge Caravans and Plymouth Voyagers-are still on the road! So don't knock all Chrysler products, folks! :o

That hoopty was one of my first cars... The @$#&ing reverse gear went out on it and I had to use my feet to back the car out of parking spaces, Fred Flintstone style... When I finally got rid of it, the junk yard wanted me to pay THEM to take it, so we drove it behind a tool & die shop one night and took an axe and baseball bat to it. Looking back, probably wasn't the best thing to do, but we were young and I was mad at the car... It was a total mess when we got through with it...  ;D This was of course after I bought the next car (88 Olds Cierra, actually made money off that car, was a good solid ride)

my car right now is a 89 mercury topaz with the original motor and transmission. this car will not die! just as long as i keep changing the oil and other odd sorts. topaz/tempos also were huge sellers in the 80s and in my hometown, there are still quite a few on the road. i guess ford makes good vehicles...

Hmmm....

I defy any of you to beat a bright Orange Skoda.
Of course "now", they have re-shaped them, but in the mid-80's they were truly the most awful cars to be driving in England. And you wouldn't be seen dead in the back of one.
I'd get my dad to drop me off at school about 1/2 mile away. I told him I wanted the exercise, but you know...

You know WHY the Yugo was a piece of %#$@? It was built in a COMMUNIST country! East Germany's Trabant and the Russian cars like Lada had the same $%@&* problem! Workers in the Communist factories were paid for QUANTITY and not QUALITY,and that's ironic coz in those countries you had to get on a waiting list to obtain those cheap pieces of crapola!

Worst Car of the 80's:

Yugo, Poeject(spelling), Sterling, I think the VW Rabbit had terrible quality. Audi's weren't that good either. The 5000 was a styling innovator but it didn't win any reliability awards.

About American Cars the Japanese did make a better car than the Domestic Big 3 then. Even a Japanese Car like Mitsubishi was actually pretty good then. The late 80's Galant was a good car for its time. When the 93 Galant came out Mitsubishi quality took a nosedive.

Sheesh!  Those pictures of the Gremlin...I thought I was on Rotten.com!  Thanks for brining back the memory of the compact Cadillac Cimmaron.  I never wanted to be one of those guys who goes around saying, "What were they thinking?," but what were they thinking?

Yes the Yugo was a Communist Bloc product, like the Lada.  I remember on 60 Minutes they showed this hapless East German who'd been on the car waiting list for 10 years.  They showed him getting into his long-awaited Lada, and guess what? It didn't start!!  I suppose he went back to the Ministry of Transportation who said, "Oh, you want waiting list for 'Car That Works,' over there, fifteen years, comrade!"  ;D

Why did they call it the K-Car? I'm on the only one who always thought "K-Mart-Car"?

Another terrible car from the '80s was the revamped Duster.  I remember they were marketing it to teenaged girls.  What does THAT tell you?

Cimarron: that was a souped up Chevy Cavilier. The 90's version of the Cimmaron was the Infiniti G20: That was a souped up version of the 2nd generation Nissan Altima in my opinion anyway.
