Subject: "Smooth move ExLax" quote?

Written By: amy toledo on 12/13/03 at 08:28 p.m.

???

Can someone please solve this mystery for me...was it Back To The Future that started that phrase?  I can't find it ANYWHERE!  Please email me, too.  Thanks, Amy in Toledo, OH

Mebby it was "Explorers" (1985), Ethan Hawke, River Phoenix.  At least that's the one that came up on my google search.  I know it wasn't in BTTF.  I thought of John Cusack in "Sixteen Candles," but I know it wasn't there either.

The phrase dates at least back to the '70s.  I remember Saying it myself  ::) in the early '80s.

I remember it in a movie too and the first one that popped in my head was Sixteen Candles. But I thought it was later in the 80's, but I have been known to be wrong before.  ;)

I remember using that saying back in the late 1970's.

Did anyone ever bake Ex-Lax into bake sale brownies, or is that just an urban myth?  would the baking process destroy the laxitive properties?  No, I'm not considering a batch for the folks at xmas.   ;)

I do remember that urban legend, don't know of anyone actually did that though. I think it came about when they made the chocolate flavored laxatives. :o

Quoting:

End Quote

Depends on which folks show up this year, eh?  ;)  I remember in my grade 8 year (early 80's) a guy in another class gave out pieces of Ex-Lax to several students, pretending it was Hershey's chocolate.  He offered some to me but I refused, thank goodness.  Because he got suspended a couple of days later when several students got.. uh... "sick".  :D   Anyhow, I remember the police made a visit and mentioned that it was a criminal offence akin to poisoning.  :o

I remember the same guy 2 years later dropping a blue crayon into a boiling kettle in cooking class.  The teacher was demonstrating something and she turned her back for a brief moment.  You shoulda seen the look on her face when she poured that water into a glass bowl!  It was all blue!!  ;D ;D

Insert Beavis and Butt-head chuckles here:
Uh huh huh huh, that was keeull!

Ex-lax as Hershey's?, reminds me of something:
Remember those science lab frogs prepped for dissection?  Our teacher warned us not to fool around. He said a kid stole a frog's leg one year and put in another kid's lunch, and that got him SUSPENDED!  Nice dose of formaldehyde with your American Chop Suey?

I thought to myself, "It was probably the same kid who rocked his chair to far back in class and is now a paraplegic, and the same kid who blew all his fingers of with an M-80, and the same kid who...."  ::)

Im thinking that came from a TV commercial in the 70s.  It seems that it become a catchphrase for a while.  When someone messed up or did something stupid you used that as a quick insult.  Kind of funny actually.

I found a short .wav file on that quote here:

There are a few others there as well, but they're a bit adult oriented.  ;)

That they are.  I immediately recognized the from "Wild At Heart," Willem DaFoe's character, Bobby Peru, to Laura Dern's character, Lula:   :-X :-X  Let's just say, keyword is *bunny*

Can't recognize the "Smooth Move" voice, was it from "Explorers"?
