Subject: The Eugene song

Written By: MaxwellSmart on 12/15/03 at 06:52 p.m.

For years I've been trying to figure out the name and artist of a novelty song I used to hear at the local roller rink c. 1980.
It had a disco sound to it, and the lyrics featured a creep named "Eugene" coming onto some girls.

The chorus went something like,

"Move over, boy, I got better things to do, I got plans and they don't include you tonight TONIGHT!

Then a woman says,
"What did you say your name was again?"

Creepy guy:
"Uh, uh, Eu-gene!"

"Who does this guy think he IS?"
"Uh, uh, Eu-gene!"

Throughout the song the guy says things like,
"Hey, two ginger ales for my girls over here, eh!"
"Hey, whatd'ya say we go down to Louie's Pizza, huh?"
"I don't know if you CARE, but the doctor says I'm not gonna make it much longer, if you know what I'm sayin'!"

And it's always "Uh, uh, Eu-gene!"

I'm afraid this might've been a strictly local novelty record (Boston area), too obscure for anyone to remember. I only remember hearing it a few times on the radio, mostly at the Roller Skating rink.  Or, as they said in Nashua, NH, "rollah skatin'"

I was hearing it most when the song "Born To Be Alive" by Patrick Hernandez was popular.  If anyone has a clue about the Eugene song, please let me know.
