Funny, there's a 96.5 The Point station here too (Philly), and they recently changed the format to some rap/hip-hop crap! It used to be 80's and today's music. Must be owned by the same company.

I HATE when stations change formats with NO WARNING! Ugh!!

We have the Point in Houston as well (106.9).  I wonder if they plan a change?

Why is it that the 80's station in nearly every city is called "The Point"???

I know...they have The Point down in Philly, which was what really turned me on to 80's music recently :)

Seriously, it must be a francise or something like Clear Channel.  I wish there was one where I live, cause the retro 80's station we had here was absolute crapola. :P  It got so bad that last year they did a format change to Christmas songs!  But after that they redid it to a really cool format where listeners can request a classic rock song.  At least there's another good station plays 80's music...along side stuff form 90's and today :\

We have no retro '80's stations here in NYC.  The only thing we have that comes close is one station that does "retro '80's" for one hour every night. The only thing is that it seems they play the same '80's songs every night.  Then there's the light station where you may catch one or two 80's every once in a while, or the classic rock station, which believe it or not actually plays the most '80's, although none of the dance music since it's classic rock. You'd think NYC would have a retro station, since we have everything else.  Unless there's one out there that I don't know about....

I'm waiting for Clear Channel to buy every single radio station here so I can listen to rap or whatever they think I should be listening to 24/7.  That's the day my radio gets tossed.

I thought the Point didnt do the 80s justice! They played the crappiest songs from the 80s!How can you have a TRUE 80s station without playing Michael Jackson,Culture Club etc.

The 80's station here in Chattanooga, TN is The Maxx and that is owned by clear channel. I think Clear Channel calls their 80's stations The Maxx.

96.5 isn't around anymore?  I thought I listened to it breifly today on the commute home.  Come to think of it, they were playing some current music and I thought it unusual.  I'll have to listen to it tomorrow and see what's up.

Yes, I noticed. The point 96.5 here in the city of brotherly love changed from great music to that rapp crapp. One day I turned it on and I here rapp. I was like what the F**k is this stuff? Very disapointed.

SAY WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??

Daymn...that really sucks!  That was pretty much the only radio station I look forward to when I drive down to Philly (mainly for classic video game conventions).  I can understand if they sometimes play old school rap from the late 80's, which was really good compared to the (c)rap that's out now.

Oh well, next time I go to PhillyClassic (www.phillyclassic.com) I'll have to make mix tapes from the Vice City soundtrack :(

Do what I did and get a satelite radio unit. The one I have has a couple of purely 80's stations (one a 'hit based station and the other a 'pseudo-new wave'), but it is still way better programming than regular radio.
