My best friend who is into eighties nostalgia wants a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers for christmas, but i cant figure which model is more 80s; the brownish ones or the black ones.

Sorry to disagree with your HS but I'd have said the black ones.  Isn't that the colour The Blues Brothers wore?  Certainly its the colour myself and all my friends had.

Tom Cruise sported a black pair in Risky Business.  Right around that time is when they were at the height of popularity.

Thanx guys, heading off to buy them black ones now!

Saw this 1983 movie with Jack Nicholson the other day, cant remember the name though, his character had wayfarers in most scenes. Some of them brown and some black.
As far as i remember it wasnt the deal that the black ones were more youthful and the brownish were for the adults?

All the best,
Wayne

I know it's a bit late, but the black ones were by far the most popular.  Tom Cruise in Risky Business, Blues Brothers, Huey Lewis, Judd Nelson and Anthony Michael Hall in The Breakfast Club, and of course Spikoli (Sean Penn) in Fast Times at Ridgemont High all sported the black wayfarers. Even our cool emoticon fella is sporting the black ones.  It doesn't get any cooler than him!  8)
