Subject: 80's DVD

Written By: JennParkandKyan on 12/27/03 at 10:55 p.m.

This is one thing I would pay high dollar for.  Does any one else wish they would make an awesome DVD that has TONS of 80's videos on it.  I mean and awesome mix.  There are a couple on amazon but with only a couple songs and not very good ones.

Yeah, I've thought about that alot...it would be really great.

Actually the only good '80's music video compilation (with a lot of good songs/videos)  DVDs are:

"Best of New Wave", "More New Wave", and "Pure '80's the DVD".
(And some like the "Essential Music Videos" series has a few)

I think they (Rhino, Time Life, etc.)  should put out a series (about 15 with 18 videos on each disc) of  DVDs.
With new wave, pop, rock, hard rock, etc.
Much like the "OMG '80's Box Set" CDs. But with videos.

If they ever get smart enough to release something like that, I am all over it!  Until then, VH1 Classic is very good!

When is Vh1 classic on?  Do they play 80's stuff? :o

I think VH1 classic is a channel, not a show...but I could be wrong.

VH1 classic is a channel and it is quite good.

VH1 Classic is indeed a channel.  They play 60s/70s/80s music.  I would say that about 70% is strictly 80s.  And yes, those forgotten about 80s videos are on there too!  And as their slogan says:  "Absolutely none of today's hottest new music!"

They play pop/rock/metal/requests, all in one hour increments (Metal Mania, for example is an hour long).  It is commercial free, except for VH1 promos.  Call your cable company and tell them you want it!  It's the best thing since early MTV!   :)

Their website is:  http://www.vh1.com/channels/vh1_classic/channel.jhtml

On January 27, "Classic '80's"& "Pop Metal" (from the "Essential Music Videos" series) will come out!!!  :D
Classic '80's includes videos from Bananarama, The Pretenders, Erasure, Julian Lennon, Simply Red, and Howard Jones.
Pop Metal includes videos from Winger, Saigon Kick, Vince Neil (solo), Steve Stevens, Faster Pussycat, and Rough Cutt. BTW, I don't know which song/video are on the discs.
Though Erasure did put out a great video compilation DVD last year.

(Along with "Alternative Rock", "Alternative Metal", and "'90's Rock" for '90's music fans like myself)

Sorry if I sounded like a commercial.
Still a good buy since they're only about 8 dollars.

Unfortunately, I don't have "VH1 Classic".
And MTV2 is not a good network. (It was during it's first 5 years, but now shows mostly today's hip hop and pop punk/ nu metal videos >:( )

I still collect music video compilation DVDs.  :D

Rhino recently released a DVD with all of Devo's videos, plus some great extras. It's titled "The Complete Truth About De-Evolution."

Thanks for the heads up...I will definitely keep my eye out for that. It would be neat if they could also do like a Pop Up Video feature for the videos too. But that may be asking too much.  :)

Here's where the playlist of the DVDs, mentioned earlier, are located:

I like the fact that "Venus" (Bananarama) is included on  "Essential Music Videos: Classic '80's". :D

Ever notice how there are 90s videos in the 80s rock DVD's?  Granted they are similar, but still it makes sense to me that they kinds belong in the 90s still...

There weren't. I think the DVD was introduced in 1996 or 97. In the 80s there were laserdisc, but they were as big as an LP record and were not very user friendly, you had to turn them over and the players were noisy.

Human League, Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran (More DVDs from them to come), Pat Benatar, Motley Crue, and Lita Ford  now have video compilation DVDs out.  :D

Well, "Wicked Sensation" from Lynch  Mob (1990) & "To Be With You" from Mr. Big (1991) wouldn't fit right with videos from Collective Soul, Better Than Ezra, Candlebox, Nada Surf, and other '90's alternative rock bands.

And "Mountain Song" from Jane's Addiction (1988, from "Alternative Metal" DVD)  also wouldn't fit into the "80's Hard Rock" DVD with Faster Pussycat & Dokken.
