Is it a mad scientist that actually existed or was fictional?

Can't think of any mad scientists but Tesla was named after Nikola Tesla who was an inventor.

"Indeed, many EEs, citing Tesla as their inspiration in their decision to enter the profession, are looking to focus other technologists' attention on Tesla's vision and away from the public perception of him as a "mad scientist." The latter is a perception that Tesla himself may have unwittingly promulgated in his time."

Jeez, I'm stumped.  ???

I wouldn't call Nikolai Tesla a "mad scientist," although Thomas Edison & Co. tried to discredit his alternating current (AC) as mad.  Edison was a staunch proponant of direct current (DC), and Tesla was the competition.  Edison and his cronies went so far as to publicly electrocute dogs with AC to demonstrate its dangerousness.  AC, of course, was made safe and reliable, and is now the universal method for residential power.

OH, this is the 1980s board, sorry, I thought it was the 1880s board!  ;D
