Subject: I saw The Spoons last night!

Written By: SmithsGirl on 01/23/04 at 09:06 p.m.

I caught The Spoons live at a small venue last night!!

Brought back memories....

They played:

Arias & Symphonies
Nova Heart
Romantic Traffic
Old Emotions
Tell No Lies
...and more

It was pretty awesome!

If you live in Toronto, Canada and want a cool place to check out 80's new wave bands on thurs nights go to Montana's at John and Richmond. Last week they had 'Honeymoon Suite' and next week it's 'Images in Vogue', remember them?!

The Spoons might've not been well known. Espcially in the U.S. & U.K. Sorry.  (I checked the allmusic site and it didn't give out any useful infornmation)

Though I'm familiar with Honeymoon Suite.   :)
"New Girl Now" is a good song.

The last time I'd seen The Spoons or Honeymoon Suite was about four years ago or so on an 80's weekend that MuchMusic had (while it was still semi-cool). Both bands played live and were terrible. Honeymoon Suite especially played with no power or excitement whatsoever. Still, it might have been interesting to see them again. Images In Vogue would be great to see again, even though Dale Martindale doesn't quite look like he used to. I love them. They were one of the few (if not the only) true New Wave bands to come from this country. I wish I lived in Toronto so I could see all these bands and go to cool clubs for 80's nights or Depeche Mode nights or whatever. We don't have that here in beer-drinkin', mullet-headed Winnipeg...

There's a name from the past.  Spoons were right up there with Martha and the Muffins in my day.

Honeymoon Suite I saw more than once B4 they were 'famous'
They had to be one of the best cover bands ever, could do note perfect Genesis and Yes but ended up doing 80's pop rock thing.  Too bad they aren't 'into it' anymore.  Made for an enjoyable evening of 70's and 80's prog rock.
