Subject: Favorite Smiths song?

Written By: Vapor Trails on 01/24/04 at 08:24 a.m.

Hello All,

I just read today that Morrissey is coming out with a new album soon. After reading some posts on here with references to The Smiths, that got me thinking. What is your favorite Smiths song?

Though I have many, the one that really stands out for me is "Bigmouth Strikes Again".

Your favorite?

I can't pick just one. It's impossible. So here are a few of my personal favourite Smiths songs, in no particular order:

That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
Barbarism Begins At Home
The Headmaster Ritual
Meat Is Murder
This Charming Man
The Boy With The Thorn In His Side
Half A Person
Unloveable
Bigmouth Strikes Again
The Hand That Rocks The Cradle
Suffer Little Children
Pretty Girls Make Graves
Sweet And Tender Hooligan

...and many, many more probably. But that's most of them, I think! :D

Absolutely Vile

I can't answer that question. When your as insanely captivated by them as I am it becomes impossible to name just one. They are all my favorites for different reason's.

Okay, for the sake of naming a few great song's at random...

'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before'
'A Rush and a Push and the Land Is Ours'

I agree its a little too difficult to pick just one..

Hand In Glove
Bigmouth Strikes Again
The Headmaster Ritual
Unhappy Birthday (very personal reason for that one!)
Oscillate Wildly (because Morrisey isn't singing on this, just for change of pace)
How Soon Is Now
Never Had No One Ever
I Won't Share You (again for very personal reasons)

An quick aside is "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" about, um, breasts or what? I think its someones Moz or Marrs idea of a joke? Clue me in, I've never figured it out..

"As Antony said to Cleopatra as he opened a crate of ale, Oh, I say, some girls are bigger than others, some girls are bigger than others, some girls mothers are bigger than other girls mothers..."  I think it's much more fun to guess than to know, don't you? :D

Another one of my favorite Smiths songs, oft overlooked, is a b-side to "This Charming Man," called "Jeanne."
"Jeanne, I'm not sure what happiness means, but I look in your eyes, and I know that it isn't there...
...There's ice on the sink where we bathe, so how can you call this a home, when you know it's a grave?"
