Subject: Molly Ringwald: Have you seen her lately?

Written By: Tv on 02/01/04 at 11:27 p.m.

I'm no 80's historian or anything but I came home one night last week and my Mom was watching something on John Stamos on TV. I see Molly Ringwald talking about John Stamos. She really changed. I couldn't believe it was her. I was like thats Molly Ringwald. Dang. I guess it shows you how old I'm getting. I wouldn't have even thought it was her. She was a good teen actress but just never broke through and made it to the big time like a Sarah Michelle Gellar.

She now occaisionally acts in made for tv movies, plays, small film roles, and guest roles on TV. Though some actors actually like having a low profile.  Atleast she's not doing any "Surreal Life" or "Hollywood Squares" type junk.  :D
Farrah Fawcett also never broke through, but she's still a great actrerss. Heck, look at Sarah Jessica Parker ("Square Pegs"). She's like one of the worst actresses around and is now on a popular series. I don't know how some break the "mold" like Alyssa Milano, Drew Barrymore, & Anthony Michael Hall while some still get typedcasted & fade into oblivion like Gary Coleman. Probably just luck.
IMO, she still looks great. 8)

I agree about Alyssa Milano, though I don't think she's going to do much more. However, Drew Barrymore is way beyond the likes of Alyssa Milano as far as acting ability and screen presence are concerned. Drew is a force to be reckoned with. 8)

I have always thought Molly Ringwald was an excellent actress.  She was much more of a household name back in the 80s than Sarah Michelle Gellar, Neve Campbell, etc. are today.  It seems like when she hit 20 or 21 that she just decided to  go into oblivion.  I read somehwere that she moved to Europe for several years primarily to get away from Hollywood.  That's why you see her taking bit parts and doing more theater now.  I'm glad she didn't take the Hollywood Squares and Celebrity Mole route.  I'm sure that if she was offered a role that she felt was right for her, she would take it.  I wouldn't be surprised to see her winning an Oscar one day.

That's an unflattering pic, but I can see she's quite an attractive woman!  No one is going to look the same at 36 as they did at 17 (in my case, Thank God!), maturity is a distinct beauty from youth.
BTW, I LOVED the short-lived Square Pegs.  I even have the theme song by The Waitresses on one of my mix CDs.  One advantage of so few episodes is that your chances of seeing the one with Devo are quite good!
As for Mrs. Broderick, I couldn't care less about what SJP is up to these days. :P

The show your mom was watching was the A&E biography on John Stamos. They interviewed Molly because she and John were costars on Broadway!  She's been acting on Broadway for a few years.
She went to London after some not so great movies to be with her husband, she came back only a few years ago.  I seem to recall seeing her on the View...she was pregnant.  I don't really follow her, so if anyone knows if she' had her baby, maybe they can add more to this.

Didn't she have a short-lived series a few years ago?  I remember a bar and the girl that plays the sister in Yes, Dear was in it too.

imdb.com is also another good source to find out about actors/actresses, movies and tv shows...but google is awesome too.
So, being a Molly Ringwald thread...what is everyone's fave film that she's done?

I would say mine was Pretty in Pink.

Didn't see American Pie and probably won't especially if it's not family oriented, I'm sick of sex and foul talk thrown in my face at the movies. That's just me though, lots of folks liked the movie, but if milf is so bad you can't translate it on this board, then Molly isn't whatever milf is, imho.

Isn't American Pie the movie where some guy has sex with a blueberry pie?

By the way, I do not know if Molly is a MILF or not, but I can with certainty tell you that Mary Louise Parker is the quintessential M.I.L.F.

I agree with you, BJ26.  I'm really sick of the fratboy vulgarity all over the place. I'm not a bluenose.  I don't object to sex or nudity.  What I object to is the message of "American Pie"--sex is dirty, and because it's dirty we might as well be gross and burlesque about it.  Similarly, the big GASP about Janet Jackson's breast indicates Americans are more comfortable with dirty cheerleader fantasies (as presented in the superbowl halftime) than with a woman's God-given anatomy.  On the other hand, Janet Jackson WAS exploiting herself by decorating her breast with that Chinese throwing star-looking thing.  Now she confesses the whole thing was planned.  She must think we're pretty dumb.  God, I'm so sick of our pop culture being filtered through MTV sex mongers.
I know that's off-topic, I just had to vent!

Good thing she is nolonger famous or else she would've gone through "world wide embarassment" & become tabloid fodder like Tom Cruise & Nicole Kidman's spilt a few years ago or the infamous big shot Oscar winning actor & his singer/second rate actress (then) fiance' realationship .

I remember Molly in a lame Aussie horror movie called Cut in 2000 - she deserves better material.

It'd be great to see a sequel 16 Candles. I've always been hoping a sequel would be made to Ferris Bueller's Day Off, but then again, maybe it's just better as a solo movie.

The Breakfast Club is always one of my favorite movies of the 1980s, and I'm still waiting for it to be released on DVD here in Australia.
