Subject: What 80's movies have you still NOT seen?

Written By: Stevie B. on 02/02/04 at 05:25 p.m.

This may seem like a weird example, but my sister wanted to treat the both of us to a movie back in 1985,and she suggested "Moving Violations",a comedy about driving school with Jennifer Tilly. I told her I was not interested becaue I was going through "driver's ed" at the time, and felt that I would not appreciate the humor. Now that I think about it,I still have not seen this movie. :-[ Are there any movies from the 80's,you STILL have not seen? They can be classics, or cult films, popular OR forgotten movies. If I think of any more titles,I will post my updates! Thanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve.

Don't worry you're not missing much, I remember Moving Violations to be a pretty bad flick.

I've never seen (and I'm not going to) E.T. I have my reasons, dispite having friends and family attempts to convince me I sould see it. I've even had my mom try and sneak it on the DVD player so I could watch it.

I've also never seen (nor do I want to):

Author (I've always wondered how someone with such a serious drinking problem was funny)
Batman
Born On the 4th of July
Cobra
Crocodille Dundee
Dirty Dancing
Karate Kid
Mad Max 3 Beyond Thunderdome
Short Circut
Teen Wolf
Top Gun (something about that song "Danger Zone" that just buggs the hell outta me!)

I never saw The Lost Boys all the way through, and that's supposed to be an "80's brat pack" staple.

I saw Top Gun and hated it, and I hate all the music from it too.

Very interesting posts,my friends. I think it would be easier for me to type out the ones I saw that you haven't seen. Whichever titles are NOT mentioned, are the ones I have not seen, as well. I HAVE seen "Arthur","Batman","The Year of Living Dangerously",the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies,"Victor Victoria",and "Agnes of God". Everything else mentioned,I too have NOT seen. Thanks for the memories. Sincerely,Steve

My parents wouldnt let me see "Flashdance" so I've never seen that too this day.
I also have never seen any of the "Friday the 13th" movies.

Oh..I've never seen more than a few minutes of "The breakfast club" or "St. Elmo's Fire" but I want too.

Oh, blecccch to both of them!  I wouldn't let my cat watch "Top Gun."  As for "The Lost Boys," I didn't see it until a year after it came out when my vampire-obsessed girlfriend got me to watch it with her.  I was like, "I can't believe you like this crap!  Anne Rice is one thing, but this is just juvenile trash."  Joel Schumacher, the director, is one of Hollywood's shameless crowned princes of trash.  The last flick I saw by him was "8mm," with Nicholas Cage.  I saw it because it was soooo universally panned.  I thought it might be MST3K level bad, which it was.  I got a lotta laughs out of it!

Wow. I thought Top Gun was a great movie! Im not a big fan of the "danger zone" song, but I thought it fit in great with the scenes of the F14 Tom Cats (one of the baddest birds around) in action. I remember appliance stores used to demonstrate the new dolby sound systems using that first part of the movie (with a laserdisc player, of course).

Anyways... Movies that I havent seen from the 80's:

Hmm. Can't think of one, Ive seen A LOT of movies back then.. But had to make a comment on one of my favorites of the decade.  :P

Not that I dislike F14's (Speedbird12), it just that ANYTIME now that you're watching a program or movie with anyone flying they pull out that song (Danger Zone) or some poor rip-off version, it drives me nuts >:(.
I can't even watch Discovery Wings without that damn song being used!
For that song, I think Kenny Loggins should be put into a flat spin dive for punishment ;D!

i used to be a big military loving freak in the 80s. loved war and war movies (and now i love peace). anyway, i HATED top gun, only because of the inaccuracies.

movies i never seen. i've seen a lot of 80s movies, but the two i never got around too seeing was beverly hills cop 2, and labyrinth. one of my friends threatened to tie me to a chair and force me to watch labyrinth. i don't know why i won't watch it, i love fantasy and bowie is my all time fav singer. stubborness i guess...

The only 80s "brat packer" in Lost Boys would be Keifer Sutherland, and I wouldn't really classify him in that group.  Staple?  I wouldn't say so.  Good movie?  Not bad.

I dunno since when war movies were known for accuracy, but what were the inaccuracies you noted in Top Gun?  Who'd go to a movie about what the Navy's really like?  You got some kid swabbing decks and peeling spuds....

i haven't seen the movie in like 10 years. the MIGs that was used were F-5 tigersharks, that irked me. of coarse, where in the free world at that time could you get real russian MIGs? and mavericks attitude, a real pilot would have been sacked doing what maverick did. i think there was a few others my friends and myself had noted.

war movies now are sticklers for equipment accuracies, since now you can use CGI to make that airplane or tank that was scrapped 50 years ago.

St. Elmo's Fire
The Big Easy
The Lost Boys (well, I may have seen a bit of this)

I'm sure there is more.

As for Moving Violations-I LOVE that movie. I think it is so funny.

I agree that the movie is not true to life, the tower buzzing alone probably would have got him booted, and the picture taking was over the top as well. But somethings were valid, like to maneuver he used to get behind the enemy towards the end.
