Subject: Favorite Revenge of the Nerds movie?

I don't remember that too well, anyway, I like the idea of "Nerds" fighting back

The 1st one of course. How can you go wrong with a movie that includes the line, "We've got bush!" and it's not referring to Presidents.

I definitely like the 1st one best...though it was neat to see the storyline between Lewis, Betty and Stan.

Well, come on, only the first is worthwhile.  The others were just trying to squeeze a few more bucks out of the concept.

I liked both 1 & 2.  These guys I knew dressed up like nerds and went to the premier showing in 1985.  They didn't have to try very hard to look and dress the part.

I also liked the scene in "Nerds 2" where Booger met his mentor, the Asian guy.  Booger did one of his marathon burps, but the Asian guy did a burp that was like 3 times as long.

Booger knelt at his feet and proclaims "Master!"

Heh heh...   ;D

That scene was at the place they were staying:

Hotel
Coral
Essex

Remember the hotel's neon sign??

Actually, I like the Police Academy series, especially Bobcat Goldthwaite and Time Kazurinsky.  The PA movies are best in various states of intoxication.  On the other hand, don't PA sequels kill enough of your brain cells by themselves?

Last time I see the first NERDS, I drew an analogy with our current political climate.  Coach Harris is a Republican and Dean Ulich is a Democrat.  I saw too much parallel played out not to make the metaphor.

The first film is my favorite teen comedy from the 80's. I agree with the people who say that the sequels were inferior attempts to make more money out the first concept, but those three films do have their amusing, and clever moments. The last one made "Nerds in Love" was a mid 90's made for tv movie, and parts of it were in 3D, and "Odorama". Didn't 7-11 sell the special glasses for the 3D effect? I seem to remember one episode of "Married with Children" being in 3D around the same time,as well. I also liked the subplot of Booger getting married. He found a girl who could belch just as loud as him...a marriage made in heaven!  :DThanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve.

Revenge of the Nerds wasnt the best comedy out there at the time but still had ingenious ROTFL moments.......

"So why do they call you Booger"
<picks a big one out of his nose>  "uuuuh, I dunno" .......... and lets not forget Boogers arm wrestling match--too funny

-liquid heat in the jockstraps---classic

-Swing Low Sweet Chariot   ;)

-Lamars limp wristed javelin throwing style

-their song/skit, a totally cool combo of Devo, Village People, Michael Jackson and break dancing----the defining point of the movie

Question--

Was Anthony Edwards contractually obligated to appear in the first 'Nerds sequel, or was he just too busy to play a bigger role?

If you recall, they have Gilbert's leg in a cast.  He talks to Louis on the phone a couple of times in the move, but that's it.  I guessed Edwards didn't want to be in the sequel, but was obliged...unless he really did break his leg!
Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong appear in all 3 sequels.

Robert Carradine trivia:
Son of John Carradine, half-brother of David Carradine, Brother of Keith Carradine.

His daughter, Ever, born from an affair with Susan Snyder.

Uncle of actress Martha Plimpton.

From what I have read about the "Nerds" movies, and Anthony Edwards,he did not want to be in the first sequel at all, but somehow got stuck doing it. Perhaps Carradine,Edwards, and Armstrong, and the others, signed contracts BEFORE they filmed the first film, obligating themselves to do at least one sequel. ??? Did you notice how Gilbert's character was barely significant to the plot? He was only in the telephone call scene you mentioned, and the desert dream sequence. Anthony Edwards did NOT appear in  "Part 3" or "Part 4" at all. I personally think he was embarassed that he did the first "Nerds" movie in the first place, and was trying to seek more mainstream acting assignments. Of course he eventually got his biggest break when he landed the "ER" tv show. I remember him being interviewed in a mid 90's TV Guide article, and he said that doing the first "Nerds" movie was fun, and the set contained a lot of "actors who needed the work, including myself",or something to that effect. But apparently it was not fun enough, or profitable enough,to motivate him to stay for the whole series. By the way, does anybody know that Timothy Busfield, the actor who played Pointdexter, was busted in the 1990's for raping a girl on some tv show or movie set?  :o Thanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve.

GASP NOT POINDEXTER!  Now you put a creepy image in my head, 'coz I picture him doing that AS his 'Nerds character.
:P
I doubt Edwards was embarrassed about the first 'Nerds movie, everybody needs a break somewhere, but he probably had more promising leads than 'Nerds sequels and didn't want to get typecast.  The first 'Nerds wasn't just some juvenile T&A romp--well, it was--but it was a HUGE hit, and made him famous over night.  One hit makes a more impressive actor's CV than a hit and a bunch of dumb flops.  As for Carradine and Armstrong, both of whom I like, they had a pretty good idea about the caliber of work they were gonna get.  I woulda loved to see Curtis Armstrong as the hotshot young intern on ER, but I'm a weirdo! ;)

BTW, does anybody remember that short-lived 1984 comedy "E/R" starring Elliott Gould?

I just think he didn't want to be type cast(see his different roll in Gotcha!)....most of the nerds didn't have much lucrative non-nerd type rolls. Except Timothy Busefield (never heard that rumor about him, hope its not true) when he did 30-something tv show.

Ogre has kept busy.  He's had the following memorable parts in addition to his Nerds legacy...

-Played Jean Claude Van Dammit's buddy in "Bloodsport"

-Played an incorrigible criminal in "U.S. Marshals"

...He also played an uncreditied role in Gonad the Barbarian way back in 1981.

Gotcha! was a great movie.  I forgot Edwards was in that.   I recommend it as a bona-fide '80s movie for anyone who hasn't seen it.  Edwards plays a college student who takes European tour and gets caught up in red espionage intrigue, and has an affair with a sultry Eastern spy ("Are you a weergin?").  Back then there was West Germany and East Germany, and the Eastern bloc border guards meant business!  Don't forget the obligatory German punk rock band!

Gotcha! was great.  I loved the scene when he is in the cafe/bar and orders Pernod but pronounces it "pair-nod" and the waiter makes fun of him.  Then as he drinks more he starts reciting French class sentences like "my crayon is yellow".  I won't try translating since I never took French.

For some reason I totally forgot this!

I met Curtis Armstrong "Booger" in Buffalo, NY in the early 90's. (I think it was '91) I kept seeing him everywhere I went for a week or so! So one day I said hi to him and he was really cool and talked to me for a while. I never did ask him what he was doing there. I figured that wasn't really any of my business but he was very gracious and friendly.
