thats all my parents ever bought. if it wasn't for k-tel, i wouldn't have had the exposure to music like i did. i grew up in an isolated community with a town that loves country, so you can see why k-tel was my salvation.

How far out in the sticks were you?  They also had K-Tel country hits, too!

I had 8 tracks  by K-Tel. one was really from the 70's, and had that song "Fly, Robin,Fly" on it. Ironically, I heard that song on the radio the other day. They must  have been doing a retro theme or something!

Is that the same as Mini-Pops? I had a few Mini-Pops albums.
They were fun. Did anyone else listen to The Mini-Pops?

I noticed something:

70s compilation albums:  K-Tel
80s compilation albums:  Rhino
90s compilation albums:  Razor & Tie

And no, I never really was around for the K-tel albums I think.

I LOVE K-Tel, ultimate cheese! ;D
I think I have a copy of that on wax, its called DISCOMAINA, and I bought it in '78 or so when I was a kid, has Fly Robin Fly, Disco Baby, Kung Fu Fighting etc...I collect their compilations, search flea-market bins etc.....BTW K-Tel was a REAL record label, they actually produced albums for real bands like Marshall Tucker, & John Lee Hooker. But their claim to fame has always been their value priced compaltions.
If it wasn't for K-Tel, many of us would not have been able to afford our fist music albums....they went bankrupt for the last time (they had filed for bankruptcy at least 5 times in their 30 year history) in 2001. :(

Bit of trivia...What was the most often featured artist on K-Tel compilations?

K.C & The Sunshine Band.
