Subject: Class Reunions

Written By: eightiesfan on 02/23/04 at 06:56 a.m.

Has anyone here ever attended any of their high school or college reunions?  My graduating class might be having a
15-yr high school reunion this summer and I'm still undecided about whether or not I'll go.

It depends on what high school meant to you.  For me, I'd have to say thanks, but no thanks!

Nah, I think I'll stick to still being in high school, and re-watch The Breakfast Club...

I went to my 15-year and it was fun!

Believe me, this comes from some1 who was neutral-not-popular, and had maybe 2 friends in my own class.  Neither of whom, incidentally, showed up.

I thought 15 years mite be enough that most people would mature and it would be pretty relaxed.  It was fun to see that indeed, most of the popular (who showed) and other groups had matured enough that there wasn't that "eeewwww, I'm too cool for you" nastiness many of them had in HS.  Now, I can think of an exception who didn't impress me as getting much nicer, but overall - much better.  Heck I had fun w/most of the popular 1s and w/1 of the grits (whom I really didn't remember)!  ;D We danced alot (altho DJ didn't do enuff '80s), and they wanted me to go to a bar later but I had to get home for baby puppy.

So, I was curious to see how people were doing.  Heck, I don't have much to show - I'm as single as I was in HS, and just a peon in a company grind.  Wasn't like I was trying to show off myself; I was interested to see what people were like.  5 years, I wasn't anxious to go.  At this point, I thought it mite be "safe".   :D

I went to my 10 year a few years back and thouroughly enjoyed it. Mainly seeing my old friends that I have lost contact with. We don't have plans for a 15, but they are workign on a 20.
It was interesting to see people sort of go into their old circles, but overall everyone was really nice.

I recomend going. My class had a 10 year and I traveled 2300 miles to go. What was funny was the people that moved away like myself were there but the people that still live in the same town were not there. My 20 was 2 years ago but we didn't have a reunion. I would have gone again. Maybe we will have a 25th. I hope so.

If you don't go you'll be wondering what happen to all those people the rest of your life.

Couldn't pay me enough to go to my reunion.  I had enough of those people by the time I left high school, and I live in the same area still, so they catch me in public every now and then.

It's annoying.  If I wanted to stay in touch with them, I would have.

My ten year is this year..actully I have two because I went to one high school the first two years and then moved and was at another high school the last two years.
I might go to one and not the other.  I know alot more people at the first school...that one's in AZ though.

My 20th is coming up next year and I have no intention of going. High school wasn't really that important to me when I was there. I just don't see the sense in going to a reunion. I figure it this way, if I wanted to be in contact with anyone from high school I would be. Since I'm not, it's pretty clear to me that I'm not interested.

Yes I had intense friendships in high school and indeed I hold those memories and experiences dear, but... high school was just a few years out of my life. I've gone through so many other and more important "defining" moments in my life for a reunion to be of value.

Perhaps you might have heard of these websites already, but two great places to check out if you would like to get in touch with old classmates without going to any reunion would be classmates.com or reunion.com. I have been in touch with a few of my old high school friends through that first one.

One extra tip: the best chance of getting a response back from someone is when they first register at one of these sites.  :)

I too went to two schools. The first one for 2 years and the second one for my senior year (that sucked). Because I didn't graduate from the first one-where I knew more people, I didn't think that I would be invited it a reunion (which I would have love to have gone). The school I graduated from did invite me to a reunion but I didn't find out about it until a few months AFTER it happened. But, I didn't know too many people from that one. I'm sure they wouldn't remember me. I also find out that first school just had a reunion. I am now registered on Classmate in both schools so maybe I will be invited to the next reunion coming up, who knows. I might actually learn about it BEFORE.

I would love to see people from my infants and juniors school but not my high school - I had enough of them by the time I left.  ::)

Nope.  I have no intentions on going to any reunion.  I hated 98% of my classmates.  I will re-live my high school years by viewing my yearbook every once in a while but that's it.

i had like two friends in high school. like several posters have mentioned, they hated most of the kids in high school, i'm no different. i still live in the community and most of the people i went to school with, left. if there was a reunion i wouldn't go. and if i did i probably settle a couple of scores, best i don't go.

Well, I got invitations to my 5, 10, and 15 year reunions.  I never went to any of them.  Nothing against anyone, it's just that something was always going on so I couldn't go.  My 20 year reunion will be this year and I hope to make it.  I played in an alumni softball tournament last summer and had a blast!  It was great seeing some of those guys again and catching up.  The reunion should be fun.    :)

8)  Well, my 20th in in three weeks and I'm going !!  I havent' been back for anything...I missed the 5, 10, & 15, but vowed to go to this one.  I went to an all-girl school and I would say I could care less to see about 1/2 of them, but there is the other 1/2 I'm dying to see....oh well, I still have about 5 lbs. to lose by then !!  I'll let you know how it goes !!

I wouldn't really want to see anyone that I went to high school with.  I went to an all girls high school, and let me tell you, those girls were mean!  I wasn't part of the "in" crowd at my high school (as I'm sure you can tell) and the people who were never let you forget that you were the outsider.  So no, I really have no desire to see them again.  Interestingly enough, my elementary school had an 8th grade reunion the summer before last and I blew that one off too.  Luckily, it fell on my wedding anniversary so I had a perfect excuse.  The 8th graders were the same as the high school people, just a year younger.

The funny thing is that I did see a few people that I went to high school with about a year or two after graduation and they hardly recognized me because I had changed so much.  I was a late bloomer, so I looked alot different than they remembered me.

My class is supposed to have one this year, but the person who is coordinating it is pregnant with twins, so I'm not sure if we'll have one or not.  We didn't have a 5 or 10 year as all of the class officers have moved far away.  It's funny, the person who is coordinating it was one of the least popular students, who had "acquaintances" in high school, but no real friends.  We got back in touch a few years ago through classmates.com and we've been emailing back and forth.  I'm not sure if I want to go or not.  I'm still friends with my closest friends from HS, but don't know that I care to see anyone else.  In fact, I live a few houses away from one of my friends and we've not talked since she moved in. ::)
