Subject: Senior Song?

Just curious..what was your Senior Song in high school?

Mine was "Forever Young" by Alphaville :)

Mine was "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart.

I've been told that Senior songs have only been done for a short time. My parents graduated in the early 70s and they didn't have a graduation song other than Pomp and Circumstance. I like the idea behind Senior songs. Whenever I hear Forever Young, I automatically remember getting my diploma and taking pics with all of my friends, throwing my cap, the whole thing.

Yeah..mine reminds me of Prom and Senior Show-offs.  They played it at both events. :)

Senior Song, oh yes, we got to vote on it.  My vote:
Bob Dylan, Subterranean Homesick Blues.

We got:
Whitney Houston, The Greatest Love of All

I just thought Bob had more practical advice!
Surprising!  You'da thought I would have gone for a Smiths song, but I had just listened to the lyrics for SHB.
I did, however, write on my candidate ballot for Homecoming
Queen, PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES!

Anyway, those Whitney lyrics are ironic today, "No matter what they take from me, they can't take away my dignity..."

Around what year did this start?  I graduated in '81 and we didn't have senior songs back then.  I started hearing about it around the time that Bon Jovi came out with Never Say Goodbye.

I graduated in 1984, and as I mentioned above, our class song was "My Friends, My Friends" by Eddie Money.  Ironically, my wife's senior song in 1988 was "Never Say Goodbye" by Bon Jovi.

This topic peaked my interest, so I went to my old yearbooks and in 1981 or 1982, there was no Class Song.  I didn't get a yearbook in '83 so I don't know if they had a song or not.

I graduated in 1989 but for the senior prom they chose a song from 1978 - Always and Forever by Heatwave.

If I could have had a vote for our Senior Song, I would have chosen either "One Moment in Time" by Whitney Houston or "Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS.

Most people would think that their senior song would be something from the year they graduated or at least from the four years they were in high school but woah, 1978? I graduated in 1990 and I remembered some people wanted to use a song made in 1984. I thought that was inappropiate because I felt the senior song should represent the times but then again a song like Always and Forever is timeless.

Always and Forever is timeless.  It was my wedding song, and I got married in 1991!  I remember reading that Always & Forever is the top wedding song of all time and I believe it, as many people as I've talked to that had that as their song.

My class (Class of '89) chose "Save the Best for Last" by Vanessa Williams.

I thought that song didn't come out until 1992.

"This is the time" by Billy Joel.  I still cringe when I hear it, which thankfully isn't often.

You are correct, eightiesfan!  :)

I am mistaken...our senior SLOGAN was "Saving the Best for Last", as in the last graduating class of the 1980s. Our senior SONG was "Don't Cry for Me", which was released in 1988, by BeBe and CeCe Winans. I should've remembered this as my graduation is on video and one of my classmates performed the song at our commencement. It took a look at my yearbook and prom program to remember this. Sorry for the confusion.  :)

OK, sorry about the strong language.  Bad memories associated, you see.
