Subject: Did you ever hurt yourself trying to breakdance?

Written By: EnvyAnsand on 03/16/04 at 12:48 a.m.

A neighbor was over my house once showing off some new dance steps she learned in break-dancing class. After doing the moonwalk and a few back spins she attempted to end the routine with the "Centipede" but was too dangerously close to the fireplace and ended up slamming her chin down on the brick base and bled all over the carpet.
I also remember hearing about someone who broke his neck while head spinning but I think this might have been an urban myth.

Yeap. The floor moves require a good deal of hand, finger, wrist and general arm strength. It happened in a flash, but I almost broke a finger by completely bending it backwards and sprained my wrist all on one occasion. Needless to say, the doctor said "No more breakdancing for you; can't risk a repeat injury". It was very painful and I did recover well, but I still get the willies just thinking about it. :P

No more breakdancing for you? :'(
A dreaded prescription circa 1983!

I wished I could breakdance, because it looked so cool, but I never attempted it.  I'm glad it didn't stay in style long enough to convince me to try!
Just recently, I saw a clip of the Pope JPII being entertained by a breakdancer.  Ironically, I named one of my mix tapes I made in the '80, "Papal Breakdance"!
