Subject: Which 80's tv shows would make good movies?

Written By: eightiesfan on 03/26/04 at 06:40 a.m.

I've been hearing rumors about The Dukes of Hazzard and The Love Boat coming to the big screen - here are some other 80's classics I think would make great flicks:
Miami Vice
Magnum PI
Hill Street Blues

Among the 80's sitcoms:
Cheers
Married with Children
Who's the Boss?
For what it's worth, I also believe The Golden Girls would make a great Broadway show.

I think Miami Vice might be interesting, especially if it was done in a comedic way.
Also, I will have to say Growing Pains and Facts of Life.

I would pay $7.50 or whatever it costs now to see a Facts of Life movie.  8)

An updated version of the A-Team would be cool. I wasn't a huge fan in the 80's, but with the right director, actors and special effects it could be done up quite nicely.

Also, Magnum P.I. starring The Rock would be a riot.

Over at the VH1 messageboards I heard some good casting suggestions if a Miami Vice movie is made:

Brad Pitt, Viggo Mortensen, or Paul Walker for Crockett
Taye Diggs or Omar Epps for Tubbs
Benicio Del Toro for Lt Castillo

I agree the A-Team would make a good movie.  Minus Mr. T.  He always bothered me.

Knight Rider
War of the Worlds
Airwolf (maybe)

McGyver would make another good movie - maybe Mel Gibson in the title role.

I couldn't see anyone making an A-Team movie without trying to get Mr T to at least make a cameo appearance though.

True, but Michael Clarke Duncan (Green Mile) or Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction) would be good choices. Actually can you imagine Samuel Jackson as B.A. and Jim Carrey as Murdock? I'm laughing just thinking of it.

i think old tv series made to movies have to have a camp value, something that can be exploited. look at charlies angels or the new starsky and hutch. as good as magnum pi was, it didn't have camp.

now the a-team has potential. you can make it that no one gets killed. that the team makes some wicked artillery out of pop cans and straws, use all of the cliches that the original series had. i would love it if they even set it in the 80s, the colombian drug cartels were every 80s action shows kicking boy. and besides, vietnam vets now are to old to go kicking a$$, unless they made them gulf war vets, or something.

Square Pegs would make a really cool movie too - maybe Julia Stiles could star in it and Sarah Jessica Parker could make a cameo as a teacher or something like that.  :D

Oh...that would be funny. I would like to see that...
Also, the short lived Misfits of Science would be a good movie.
As far as cartoon shows into a movie, I'd like to see Jem.

Here's a couple more I would like to add to my wish-list:

21 Jump Street with Josh Hartnett in the Johnny Depp role of Detective Hansen; Beyonce or Ashanti could play Holly Robinson's part

I also think sort of a live-action/animation version of The Smurfs would be neat (maybe make it like they did with Scooby Doo)

ANYBODY but Jim Carrey.  The A-Team is no place for his worn-out, rubber face act.

Too bad George Peppard is not around to do at least a cameo role.  :'(

I was thinking of Jim Carrey as Judge Harry Stone in a Night Court movie!  They could get the big Chinese basketball player to be Bull the bailiff.

As for The Jeffersons, how about Dave Chapelle as George and Wanda Sykes as 'Weezie?

I'd like to get anchors from Fox News to remake the A-Team--Bill O'Reilly as Hannibal Smith, John Gibson as Face, Alan Colmes as Murdock, and Sean Hannity as B.A. Baracus! (I pity the fool who don't vote Republican!)

How about a movie about the making of the ill-fated show, "Hello Larry" ?

Would be informative to learn what goes on behind the scenes of a real bomb.

That would rock.  I wonder who would take John Ritter's place, or would the plot just say that he is out of town visiting relatives?  ???

Though I've read that "Hello, Larry" wasn't that bad on "JTS", but I really don't know. Plus, IMO, most sitcoms from the late '70's to the mid '80's were corny. No offense.

"Pink Lady...& Jeff"
"Facts OF Life" (Can't watch a single episode without feeling sick)
"Manimal"

And "Small Wonder"  :D
A 1 out of a millionth chance of seeing a horrific sitcom made into a mediocre movie.  :D

How about a "behind the scenes" flick about Cover Up, which starred model Jon-Erik Hexum?

In the ultimate case of irony  :P , Hexum played a "weapons expert" on the show.  But he met an early demise whilst playing with a gun on the set.  He took a .44 Magnum which was loaded with blanks, held it to his head, and fired.

Apparently he did not know that even blanks can kill you if you hold the barrel to your head.  :-/

They then brought in actor Antony Hamilton to take his place, but then Hamilton passed away from A.I.D.S.

My guess is that there is LOTS of "behind the scenes" stuff that could make a pretty good movie for 80's buffs.

From what I have read they are making a Magnum PI movie. George Clooney would play Magnum and LL Cool J would play TC.

For the Dukes of Hazzard I think I read taht Ashton Kutchner(?) and Paul Walker would be the Dukes and I know that they were talking to Jessica Simpson to play Daisy.

There's a difference w/ a tv movie as compared to a bigger budget. Also, having a movie w/ different actors to play the parts would be different too.
I know Growing Pains has had a couple of TV reunion movies. They just can seem so cheesy sometimes.
