Subject: Some lead singers...are overrated...

Written By: Heather on 04/14/04 at 08:27 p.m.

Okay, I do find Michael Hutchense, Joe Elliott, Robert Smith, Sting and George Michael to be very easy on the eyes.  However, in my humble opinion, to me most lead singers really aren't all that appealing.  They tend to have really huge egos, they cop all the credit for a group's success, they pose too much and most of the time they're really not all that attractive.  For instance, I thought that Axl ROCKED!!!  But, as far as his looks...well, never did a thing for me.  None of the guys were exactly GQ models, but if I had to choose, I'd either go with Slash or Duff McKhegan (I think that's how he spells his last name).  And Steven Tyler of Aerosmith is alot of fun and he's got a dynamite voice and stage presence.....but, he's......how shall I put this......errrrrmmmm.....not too easy on the eyes.  I don't want to offend any Steven Tyler fanatics out there, but the guy does give me the creeps at times.  Because of those lips mainly, but it's also his skin, his facial structure.  I have to admit to having a massive crush on Joe Perry back in 1999.......talk about HHHOOOTTT!!!  And then........there's my #1 favorite band in the world.....Duran Duran.  Again, not to offend any fans out there, but......the only things I find redeaming about Simon LeBon are his voice and his song lyrics.  Other than that.......well, he's not what I would consider "ugly", but he's not what I would consider "devistatingly handsome", either.  I mean, maybe back in the '80s he was alright.  These days, his hair looks so unclean.  But he does tend to bother me at times, because he does have a tendancy to think that he is God's gift to women.  And, I kind of have to feel sorry for poor Nick Rhodes, along with the other guys in the band, because they were often left in Simon's long shadow.  They suddenly became Simon LeBon's back-up band, and he was clearly the star of the show.  There are a couple of other lead singers out there, but I can't really name them right now.  I'll have to sleep on it a bit.  Again, it is not my intention to offend anyone, but I'm simply stating an opinion.  Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings.

I have to disagree with you about Simon LeBon. Back in the early 80's when my girl friends at school and I were into Duran Duran, we drooled over two people...John Taylor and Nick Rhodes!! They were way more gorgeous than Simon! He was OK, but couldn't hold a candle to John and Nick!! I think the only ones who stood in the shadows of Duran Duran were Andy and Roger Taylor. It's not surprising that they were the first to leave.

Now let's have a look at the lead singer for one of my favourite bands, Depeche Mode: David Gahan. Now, don't get me wrong, Depeche Mode is great, and so is Dave. But, his stripper-like moves have always made me cringe somewhat, and as time went on in their career, he's adopted a more "rock star" attitude (although I think a lot of this has dissipated since he's cleaned up). I'll admit that he does know how to work a crowd and he has a dynamic stage presence, but he's not the one with real sex appeal! That person is Martin Gore!! He's also got the better voice and he writes great songs. ;D As for his stage presence...for an incredibly shy person, he's made up for it with style, and I don't think he needs to do much to work a crowd. People love him anyway! And I'm happy he's never shaken his arse on stage! I hope he never does!
