Subject: obscure song, lyrics

Written By: david M. Candland on 2/2/1999 at 7:59 p.m.

In the mid-'80s there was a tune called "The Price of Love" by either The Lucy Show or B-Movie. I have never been able to track this down on any format. I had a bad copy that I taped off the radio years ago,but misplaced it. The song kind of had a R.E.M./Let's Active/Replacements feel to it with really ragged vocals. Anyone have any info on this?

Was the rumour true that Molly Ringwald's brother was in the group The Rave-Ups ("You Lost a Lot When You Lost Me)?

Finally, a half dozen years or so ago, a buddy was trying to stump me on songs from the '80s. He eventually did it with a song that he had taped but didn't know who it was, neither did any of his friends who also had a copy of it on a homemade '80s compilation. It bugged me so I borrowed the tape and let a bunch of people hear it - not one person had a clue. It haunts me to this day! the song was a new wave-type '80s song with both synth and guitars (it was pretty slammin'!), but what was unique about it was that it had an Indian/sitar sound running thru the entire song. It's impossible to say what the group sounded like because they were so original and sounded like bits of several groups. The main chorus as far as I can gather was "It's your love..." or "with your love...". Not much to go on I know, if anyone can help shed some light here I'd appreciate it!

Thanks,

David

Your first inquiry was definitely not B-Movie, must have been Lucy Show.

Was your second inquiry, “Lose Your Love” by Blancmange off their Beieve You Me album?

Give me more clues.

Greg,

I'm familiar with Blancmange, but I'm not sure if it's them or not. I'll have to check that song out since I don't believe I've heard "Lose Your Love." By the way, I wore my "Mange Tout" tape out and when I purchased the CD a couple of years ago, that great paranoid tune "The Day Before You Came," was a totally different version than the one on my original tape. Well not totally different, but enough to where I was disappointed. Perhaps it was the version that they had released in England or something. It wasn't a re-mix, but an altogether different recording. If you're not acquainted with "Mange Tout," I believe their first album, I would highly advise checking it out. Thanks for the info on B-Movie and I'll keep you posted.
