Subject: Need help for our 80's party!!!!

Written By: Crystal on 3/23/1999 at 3:25 p.m.

Hello there!! My husband and I are having an all 80's party in April and I thought I would post here to get some ideas. I already printed out most of the stuff on this website so I can show everyone and we sent a 7 page trivia quiz out with the invitations. We are going to give a prize for the most right. But one small problem, we can't think of a prize. Any ideas??? We also wanted to give random prizes out for like best costume and pop quizzes etc. We have a binder full of old pictures of ourselves that we are putting out, we all have to dress 80's style (including hair and makeup) and we are only listening to 80's music all night. We have things like a cabbage patch doll, rubiks cubes, and trivial pursuit and a smurf to put out but can't think of or find other stuff. Does anyone have any good ideas for things to do, things to give away as prizes or anything else???? I'd really appreciate a personal email so that I can be sure to get the answer. Thank you in advance for your help.

You could give 80s movies that are on video as prizes. Some of the classic ones might be on sale. I very recently picked up a copy of St. Elmo's Fire, Better Off Dead, and Valley Girl for $9.99 each.

Hiya! Um. I threw an 80's party two years ago, for my 23rd b-day. Unno what I did? I taped a bunch of 80s videos from VH1 and played them in one of the rooms in the house. Every now and then I'd switch the tape to an episode of "Robotech" -- wish I'd rented "Max Headroom" as well. So how about getting a TV (or two) and a VCR (or two) and screenin' some videos, or movies, or old TV shows or somethin'?

Have fun.

Shoot! you beat me to it. Videos are a great gift for this party! Cds are too! I got The bangels greatest hits for 10.00, any madonna (the immaculate collection) or billy joels greatest hits would be cool too. How about rubiks cube key chains or slinkys as random gifts? Your party sounds fabulous (can i come? :) Hope it goes well!

Hey slinkies!!! Didn't even think of those. I think the rubiks cube key chains and slinkies are a great idea, but where would I find them???

I thought of a couple of other ideas for the party today. Let me know what you think:

When everyone comes in the door we clip one of those feather roach clips to their outfit. They can't say the words Awesome, Michael Jackson or 80's. (Or something like that -- any other word ideas??) If you say those words and get caught the person who catches you can take away your clip. The person at like 11:00pm with the most wins a prize.

The other idea was to play 80's pictionary. We could make up our own cards of just 80's related stuff and break into teams and play.

Any other ideas for stuff to do???

Well if its an 80s party im sure a lot of people will break out words like "radical" and "totally". Slinkys arent too hard to find but the keychains you might need to call around some toy shops. and maybe you could have lip sync contests to 80s songs. (those were HUGE back in high school for talent shows adn whatnot) youve got some totally tubular ideas dude! :)

Oh Lip Syncing is a great idea!! I think everyone needs to have a few drinks before doing that though. I'll ask my dh and see what he says. I love it though. We could have judges. Oh this party is going to be so much fun, I totally can't wait!!!

Thanks everyone!! I'm still welcoming ideas though.

I was gonna say roach clips, but you already thought of that. I remember wearing those godforsaken things in my hair....never occurred to me what they were really for. As for other ideas, how about those black rubber bracelets, rabbit foot keychains, or you could make goofy headbands (like with glitter and stuff on em) or friendship pins.
