Subject: 80's party ideas

Written By: Steph on 4/10/1999 at 2:52 p.m.

Help! I am having an 80's party in about 4 1/2 weeks. I've already sent out the invitations. I have lots of music. Now I need some ideas on decorating 80's style. I would like to do posters on the walls but can't seem to find any. I have been searching thrift stores for weeks for 80's memorabiia but i'm having no luck. I want my guest to oh! & ah! and totally be taken back to the decade. I would especially like ideas of details and special little touches.

Thanks to anyone and everyone who offers suggestions.

If you have any old 80s movies (not taped from TV) try making copies of the covers of the boxes.

Another game you can play is Guess the Song. You give the lyrics to 80s songs and the other people try to guess what song it came from.

Hi there! I am also having an 80's party but in 2 weeks and have been posting about it and getting suggestions from all these great people. THis is what we are doing:

Everyone is dressing 80's Listening to 80's music I sent out trivia questions with the invites so there is a big prize Giving prizes for best costume of each girl and guy Having a potluck dinner Playing old video arcade games that my dh downloaded of the internet. (ie: pacman, donkey kong, frogger) Having a multimix contest (snipits of 4 songs that they have to guess, prizes awarded) Playing this game where you have to guess who you are from the 80's. I made these labels that will be attached to the person's back. They can only ask yes or no questions as to who they are. It can be fictional or nonfictional. Some examples of people we are doing is: Alex P. Keaton, Ronald Reagan, Thomas Magnum, Madonna, Michael Jackson. Decorating our whole upstairs (where the party is) with 80's stuff. We put the word out to all our friends and relatives and they have given us so much stuff. You'd be surprised at what people have kept. We are taking down all our knic knacks and putting up old clothes (on hangers), book from Expo 86 that we have, Perfection, smurfs, trolls, cabbage patch dolls, rubiks cubes, trivial pursuit 80's version and regular, all our highschool yearbooks, hockey stuff, toys from the 80's. OH TONS OF STUFF. I have been slowly going to thrift stores also.

Like you I haven't found posters or anything. Unfortunately they just aren't around anymore. Try scanning in cd covers or tape covers and blowing them up???

Ummmm what else are we doing????? I made certificates up on the computer for best dressed and most trivia questions answered and stuff. Everyone who attends gets a "made it through Jim and Crystal's radical 80's party" certificate.

I can't think of anything else right now. Phone up all your guests and make sure they bring 80's music, and any memoribilia they might have.

Hope this helps.
