Subject: DO NOT FORGET 80s NICKELODEON!!!

Written By: FARLEY HATCHER on 4/23/1999 at 10:18 a.m.

What is going on at Nickelodeon these days?! The once great children's cable channel has absolutely no respect for its past and former watchers who sat through all those mostly Canadian produced shows no matter how bad some of them were. It was like the whole generation loved to torture itself by watching the likes of "The Little Prince" from his little 3-volcano planet, or the Dave Coulier variety show, "Out of Control". Remember the 3-hour Sunday morning show, "Total Panic"? What about the film critic show, "Rated K, for Kids by Kids"? Why didn't any of their comments get printed on movie posters? All those shows can not be seen at all anywhere. Nickelodeon needs to add a new Classic Nickelodeon channel. What great classic shows am I talkiing about? "You Can't Do That On Television" It is appalling that most kids under the age of 18 have NEVER even heard of this show. More shows: The "You Can't..." sister show, "Turkey Television". The shows we 80s kids watched during summer vacation mornings as we ate our Nintendo Cereal System and after school as we hopped on our Pogo Balls: Does ANY ONE remember the short-lived 1987-88 variety show, "Don't Just Sit There"? Or the house-trashing game show, "Finders Keepers"? Also, "Today's Special" with its department store mannequin and stuck-up diva mouse was so cheesy you hated it but you just had to watch. "Double Dare" practically pioneered kids game shows. On lazy afternoons "Special Delivery" would show a different live-action, or animated afterschool-special-ish movie that would seem to never end. For those who thought "Sesame Street" was too complicated, there was the long morning show, "Pinwheel", which always had Bill Cosby and his "Picture Pages" (You all know you wanted one of those squeaky pens!) From Australia, there was "The Zoo Family", and also cartoons such as that one with the annoying girl koalas, and "The Adventures of the Little Koala" (As the theme went: "Time to play with Roo and his friends/The fun never ends, Koalas lead the way/ On a sunny day...") "Belle and Sebastian" with the boy and his dog. "Mr. Wizard's World"; "Maple town" AND OF COURSE, "DANGERMOUSE"!!, and "Count Duckula"...I could go on and on listing cartoon. BUT YOU CAN'T FORGET THE SHORTS that would come on between shows. ANYONE REMEMBER "DOGBRAIN", which showed nothing but a sleeping dog snoring as Who-knows-what was being heard in the background. Or "The Cat Came Back"? "Dennis the Menace" was old but it was sheer coolness. and in the 80s nearly all the shows on Nick-at-Nite were in black-and-white. People we must not forget and should push Nickelodeon to rerun these shows. Right? Or am I the ONLY ONE WHO CARES?

I loved "You Can't Do That" and Danger Mouse!!!!! I used to watch Mr. Wizard's World too.

I am also a loyal Nick-At-Nite watcher, especially late, late at night.

I would pay money to be able to watch You Cant Do That On Television. Oh and remember that teenage soap opera "Fifteen". Wow that show sucked, But I couldn't miss one episode!
