Subject: To Lindsey about fads

Written By: Katie on 4/23/1999 at 3:30 p.m.

Lindsey, Hi. I am Katie. I was born in 79, so I'm 20 now, but I still lived through the 80's. I can give ya some info. I remember that scrunchies first emerged as the "in" hair accesory in the 80's. They are a fad that's lasted. Bananna clips were also popular. Younger kids used to wear little scrunchies with all kinds of plastic bangles, characters, etc. attached to em. This trend carried over into the90's too, I think. Makeup was VERY bright. I remember in high school(93), my Freshman year maybe, or whenever, that blue eye shaddow was WAY out(bad). In 88, my aunt , Cathi, had baught me an eye shaddow kit, full of bright, colorful shaddows. Mom was ticked, cause I was only 9. I loved those shaddows, though, and I hated giving them to the trash in the 90's. The colors included blues, purples, gold, silver(I think), grey, browns, etc. Oh, I remember that green was in there too. I also remember that in maybe the early 90's, and probably the80's, the crimping iron was the hottest thing. Actually, thi crimping iron was invented in the 70's to be used on Barbara Streisand's hair. I learned this from a magazine ad about hair through the ages. If you want info of pics of wild hair, try to find pics of 80's Barbies. I'm serious. Or find some people(friends, Godparents, etc.) who were teens in the 80's. Get photos up the kazoo. It'll help. If you are really into it, you might try going to a library or a used bookstore, and looking for old magazines. Collecting 80's mags is my current hobby. Stay cool, and chill. It'll be like fun to do this project, like, totally.:)
