Subject: 80's Girl Groups

Written By: Michael C on 8/13/1998 at 8:13 a.m.

Just taking an informal survey - who's your favorite 80's Girl Group? The GoGo's, The Bangles, The Waitresses, Bananarama? Or any other. I like them all, but my favorite is the GoGo's. They played their own instruments and wrote their material etc etc.

BTW - this is a great site!

Yours in the 80's...

I really like The Waitresses because they were so intelligent and had such kick-arse songs...but then again, I also like The Motels because the lead singer was a really intense singer, quite like the lead singer of Quarterflash, another group I like a lot. Um...okay if I name multiples? Because I ADORE Annie Lennox and Alison Moyet. I don't think I've heard any female artist express herself as much as I've heard Annie or Alison...their voices are SOOOO powerful! I love 'em best.

*I love the Go Go's and the Bangles had a couple of great songs, but, wow, I love Bananarama. In fact, I have their greatest hits CD in my car right now. Their music is still as much fun as ever.

I just bought The Go-Go's Greatest Hit album last week. They get my vote simply because I feel nostalgic when I listen to them. i spent a summer in North Central Missouri and met this incredible girl. After summer, I had to move back to Ohio, but we kept in touch for so many years after that. Eventually, she got married... you know... life happens, and we lost touch of course, but I still think about her a lot especially because she was the first one to encourage me to try a writing career. Oh yeah, the original point. The Go-Go's were her favorite group, and mine as well. I can't hear the song "Vacation" without getting kind of sentimental. So they definitely have my pick.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Hmmmm, Fave girl group, I can't say that I ever bought a single album by any girl group in the 80's but if I had to make a choice...Oh wait, Cyndi Lauper, gosh how could I forget about her I love her.
So my choice is Cyndi Lauper,
Thanks for asking,
Dan
