Okay if I add my thirds to this? I only liked NKOTB for a total of a MONTH in '89, back when they did that whole "Hangin' Tough" act thing...ugh. :P Painful memories...*giggle*
What's truly awful is that the two girls I hang out with most ABSOLUTELY ADORE the Backstreet Boys!!! *ack gag* Ugh..."like, gag me with a spoon!"
How about some GOOD '90s " '80s reinventions"? Like...Will Smith did a cover of "Just the Two of Us" by Bill Withers...it's WAY COOL. Oh...and wasn't Nirvana mainly inspired by the super '80s group the Pixies? Yeah, I think that's what I remember hearing. And surely no one can see a Prodigy video without thinking, "Oh wow...who's that guy trying to be John Lydon?" Every current electronica act must've been inspired by New Romantic music, and groups like Portishead must've been inspired by '80s goth like the Cure and that group who performs "She Sells Sanctuary" (the Cult?) And...*puffing up shoulders proudly* there are new indie groups like Goldfinger, Reel Big Fish, and Less than Jake whose biggest influences include Duran Duran...no lie, those three artists even did a TRIBUTE ALBUM to them! Ooooh, and Smashing Pumpkins are Duranies, too...even performed live with Simon LeBon in Europe earlier this year.
Pretty soon, I'm sure that our classic rock will come from the '80s, and all the new artists will sound like they come from the '80s.
Oooh...one more thing...No Doubt...they're like the BIGGEST Madness fans. No lie.
