A-Ha. The Romantics. The Cure. One Hit Wonders? Well...

I just did some research and put what I found on my home page. Check it out and click on One Hit Wonders? What I found out was pretty interesting.

Hope you like it.

I love almost all these songs!! Thanks for posting them there, they bring back some great memories!

Hey there,
I am glad someone finally told the Radio Station's there really is more being played than your playlist. I guess in their minds if they don't know it, it just doesnt exist...NOT!
BTW have you ever listened to an 80's retro night that I think every town across America now does (usually a Friday or Saturday night.) Hang it up if you want to hear something that was not mainstream in the 80's. Suggest The Love Cats by the Cure or This Is The Day by The The chances are you will get an answer of WHO???
Thanks for the comprehensive list of One Hit Wonders who some know had a couple of songs to break into mainstream.

Acually Dan, I never really did that about the radio station. It was just sort of an "imagine if you will" type thing, sorry to mislead you, but I am studying to be a fiction writer.

Yes, you are right about the playlists. There seems to be a plethora of stations promising "the best from the seventies, eighties, and nineties" but all they seem to play (and I hate to denounce these acts, but they are SO overplayed) are Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, or Bryan Adams. One local radio station here, I swear, must be a wholly owned subsidiary of Bryan Adams himself as much as they play him. But try this. Request something to a radio station off this list, something obscure, and then when the DJ says station policy is not to play a song unless it hit the top 40, hit em with the 411. Tell him or her to look it up. It might be fun to do!

P.S. I can't believe I forgot Matthew Wilder! Break My Stride, which everybody knows, and another one off the same album. Since you are well versed in these sort of things, I'll ask you. Can you name the other Matthew Wilder song to hit Top 40 Billboard? Something to ponder.

I can't label this song as a 'One Hit Wonder' but it is one that I rarely hear and loved, 'Who's Holding Donna now' by El Debarge.
It took forever for me to record that song from the radio. I get so fed up with the radio at times cause they get so consumed in the new stuff that they forget the 80's existed. I listen
to Back Trax USA and the 80's Rewind. That really helps me to go back to the music I loved! As for the local radio stations on request night, you get, 'We have no clue who the Stray Cats, Georgia Satelittes, etc, are??'
That kills me!

You are absolutely right about the local stations, but as Dan said in a previous post, even BackTrax and some other national syndicated shows won't play something they consider obscure. One of the reasons I do my Personal Top 20 eighties songs on my webpage is so some of the more obscure ones can be in the spotlight as well, since I listen to those every bit as much as the hits of the decade. Alas, webtv has no capabilities to record sound as of yet, but when that happens maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to record a short sample of each song to jar peoples memories of which songs they were. We'll see. It will make the page a lot more interesting anyway.

Thanks for stopping by.

What about 'Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone' and "Someday' by Glass Tiger?
Or, 'Don't Dream It's Over,'Something So Strong,' and 'Better Be Home Soon' by Crowded House?
I am also not sure if these were one hits or not, but they don't get enough airplay around here..
Neither does Paul Young's 'Everytime You Go Away' and 'Come Back and Stay.'
Anyone remember these songs?

Those were two acts I had forgotten, although Glass Tiger actually had four...count em...four songs to hit Billboard's Top 40 in the 80's. I Will Be There (#34 March 87) and I'm Still Searching (#31 May 88)

I have the album "No Parlez" by Paul Young, and it is great. My apologies to Chucky G for not getting an album review to him on it. It's coming. I promise. Don't know when, but it is.

Thank you for the kind comments.

You are welcome...I love to talk 80's, and I can do so often!
I am certain, you will get tired of my mouth over the 80's!
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to vent myself!
