Subject: One hit wonders/radio

Written By: Jack Day on 9/2/1998 at 2:29 p.m.

Grin, I was reading the One Hit Wonders from a bit
back and noticed a fair bit of talk about radio
stations not know who the heck a lot of 80's people
are... as such I leave everyone with this.
My wife and I host a radio show every Friday
night (9pm-1am Central US) on our University's
radio station. I am a huge 80's fan and as such
the majority of our show is comprised of 80's music
and 90's music by 80's bands. We dip around into
the 70's and 90's as well, particularly if certain
bands sound like they could belong in the 80's
(Cause and Effect is a good example). Anyways,
we are bound to start broadcasting over the Internet
very soon (fact we are having a radio meeting today
so who knows :) ) Anyone interested in listening
(and who has the capabilities, Real Audio would be
my guess) is welcome to listen. I'm not sure what
all the radio has though there selection is alright,
but I'm sure to place Abba, ABC, A-ha, Asia, Baltimora,
Boston, Cause and Effect, the Cure, Depeche Mode,
Duran Duran, Erasure, Fixx, Genesis, Howard Jones,
Human League, etc etc etc (and I forgot some already
like Culture Club and Glass Tiger). . . Course,
we'll take requests too and we'll play just about
anything (provide there isn't profanity) by anyone...
limited by our selection of course... check us out :)
I'll give more info when I know we are broadcasting
for sure.

Jack

Wow, too cool!
My only suggestion would be play some of the bit obscure music that made the 80's the 80's. For instance even in staying within Top 40 it's great to hear Adam Ant (goody two shoes) but it's even better to hear "Stand and Deliver" or INXS's (Need you tonight) would be good but "I send a message" would be even better.
I can't wait to be able to tune in and hear you live.
Let me know when you are kicking it off,
Dan

Grin, well I'm limited by what the station has for
a number of artists (and a lot of those are singles).
However, I will be bringing my own stuff too and
as such have a tendency to play stuff not normally
played on the radio (or at least not often)...
I've collection albums (and/or live albums) so I
tend to play anything I want from them. If I have
individual albums (I've most Duran Duran, DM, A-ha,
Asia, and various others) then I'll just about
anything... And if you request it and I can find
it then I'll gladly play it :)

Btw, I'm at Northwestern Stae University in Lousiana,
the current web address for the radio site should
be http://vic.nsula.edu.knwd I've not been
to the site yet but it should either play from there
or give to a play link. Also you should be able to send
me requests from there. Kelly (my wife) and I will also
be on 3Kingdoms mud (telnet 3k.org 5000) and Foothills
talker (toybox.infomagic.com 2010) so you can chat/request
there too... just look for Amianda or Kryllith

Jack

PS On the meeting Wednesday they stated that we were
test broadcasting on the Net at the time but we need
to get a special license... we may or may not be
broadcasting now, but have a look anyways :)

Dan, I think you read my mind there...oh, my INXS!
Linz~
Yes, anything by INXS would be great from me! Or, Culture Club, or both!

What a great idea! Be sure to let us know any updates and when we can catch your broadcast on line. BTW, which university?
