Subject: The Other Ones

Hiya All,

Just discovered this website and message board, and I'm thinking that you are all my last hope. I am pleading for anyone and everyone who reads this to please make a commitment to help me out here. I would be extremely grateful. You see, to this point, I've reached dead ends no matter where I go on this quest for information. The information I seek is on the 1987 new wave synthpop band, The Other Ones. The band was composed of three Australians, Jayne Klimek, Alf Klimek, and their brother, and three Germans, whose names I forget. This band was very danceable and had three hits: "We Are What We Are", "Holiday" and "All The Love". I was really into this group then, as well as many other groups, whose songs can be found on most compilation Cds. However, this particular group seems to be forgotten. Come'on, there must be someone that remembers them. They were on the Virgin America label here in the US, and I have tried contacting the company not just here, but also Virgin UK, and Virgin Germany. No luck. I have visited numerous '80s websites and very few references about The Other Ones can be found, if any at all. I'm 33 now, and trying to get together a collection of much of the music I used to dance to in the '80s. I would appreciate information from anyone who may know where to find the self-titled Cd that this group put out in '87. I know it's out of print, and I have located a few copies of the album at used record stores, but I don't have a turntable as of yet. Please, if you can give me direction or help me out, I would be most grateful. There is so much garbage music out today, and it's a shame that a band like this is hard to find. Also, if anyone has information on what members of this group may be up to, please let me know. I can't say that I am "stuck" in the '80s, and I know that many consider it a big "cheese" period, but it did produce many wonderful nights on the dancefloor. In a day when Hootie and Natalie Umbr(insert vomit sound)uglia rule the airwaves, it would be nice to have just a little bit of 1987 back. I've rambled and made my point, but please post here any info, or e-mail me at the address I've given. Thrive and beam, all!:)

I don't have anything that can help you, but I do remember The Other Ones! "Holiday" was pretty good but "We Are What We Are" was far better. I remember this because after seeing the video, my brother exclaimed "Look at them. They should have named this song just "We Are What(?)", they're not like anybody else!" (In relation to the second line of the chorus.) He liked the song too, he was just being humorous.

Thanks for jarring that very pleasant memory.

I remember the Other Ones, Thomas!!! I can still see the video for "Holiday" in my mind, with the band members dancing around in front of picture postcards from all over the world. At any rate, "Holiday" is on one of those "New Wave Hits of the '80's" that are out on CD... either volume one or three, I can't remember which one. I don't have any 411 about the availability of their album, however, but you can always check out the retro stores, or go to Media Play and go to their computer record and search for info. I hope this helps

Their self-titled CD is available on CD at www.gemm.com as well as a lot of vinyl, though I realize that won't help you... (come on, turntables are cheap, just getting harder to find)
