Subject: Sweetheart, by Frankie And The Knockouts - 1981

Written By: The Guy on 5/23/1999 at 1:17 a.m.

I very fondly remember the 1 hit by a "1 hit wonder" band from the 80s. The song was called "Sweetheart" and it came out around the summer of 1981. The band that recorded it was called Frankie And The Knockouts.

I haven't heard the song since, probably, about 1982. They came out with another song about 2 years later, which didn't do so well and, as far as I know, were never heard from again.

I know the band must be defunct, but I was wondering what Frankie or and his former bandmates are up to now? Are they even still in the music business? That was one great song and I'm sorry they were never able to match it.

They had 3 top 40 hits. The drummer went on to be Bonjovi's drummer. There is a complete greatest hits just released recently. "Sweetheart" was a big radio hit in its day.

The song "Sweetheart" can be found on the Rhino Records cd "Radio Daze: Pop Hits of the 80's, Volume 5". Their other lesser known hit was "Without You (Not Another Lonely Night)" from 1982. This can be found on the Varese Vintage cd "The Lost 45s of the '70s & '80s" Try www.VareseSarabande.com According to the liner notes, leader Franke Previte went on to co-write "I've Had The Time Of My Life" from the movie Dirty Dancing.
