Subject: Hairspray of the 80s?

Written By: Jenn on 6/14/2000 at 1:27 p.m.

What was the most used hairspray of the 80s? My sister is turning 30 next month and we're making a "time capsule" of her life. We need something to represent her "big hair" years..... Man did she have high bangs!!

What did you use??

All the punkers would agree with the "Aqua Net" in the pink can - what your grandma's used!!! The smell of Aqua Net always reminded me of my grandma!

I also had friends that would use superglue for the spikey look - I have never been that desparate! hehe

> I used what ever was cheapest because at one point I'd go through a can in about 3 days. I used aqua-net (extra super hold) and Rave (mega hold #4) and Stiff Stuff and Bold Hold. Those were all like spray cement, as my bangs were very tall and VERY stiff! I can still remember people coming up to me and pushing my bangs and making the "BOiing" sound effect as they would snap back to their laquered position.

I know that you can get aqua net and Rave in supermarkets still, but I haven't seen the other two in years.

> -Jen Aqua Net Extra Super Hold. White can with pink "net". Used to turn on the blow dryer and spray the stuff into the airstream effectively cementing my hair straight up. (Also, pure egg white worked during the brief psuedo-mohawk I had, but Mom never knew when she'd be able to make breakfast.) They still sell the stuff in most local drug stores.

I concur with what everyone else said - I thought Rave smelled less toxic than the Aqua Net. I vividly remember some guy walking up to me and sniffing my hair and saying it smelled like vodka. I have been paranoid around flames when I have hairspray on ever since then...
