Subject: the letter people

Written By: Julia on 6/20/2000 at 1:08 p.m.

My brother and I were trying to name all the letter people. We are stuck on the following ones: G,J,0,P,Q,U,V,X, & Y. If anyone has any idea about the names of any of these letter people, please let us know.

Thanks

I can't beleive I remember your questionable letter people.

G was Gooey Gum, J was Jumbled Junk, O was Obstinate Opera, P was Poiny Patches, Q I think was Quiet, U was Upsi-daisy Umbrella, V was Violet Velvet Vest, X was just known as Mr. X (sounded like Jimmy Stewart), and Y was Ywaning I believe 'cause he fell asleep all the time.

I've tried many time to try to find a website devoted to the Letter People, but with no luck. I especially like the groovy drug-induced music!!!!!

The Letter People were totally cool!

We used them in first grade when we were learning to read. The teacher gave us cards with the Picture Person's picture on them each time we learned a new letter sound. (Yes, we already knew our alphabet. We were learning letter SOUNDS and building basic words. I don't mean to make it sound like we didn't know the alphabet until first grade)

I didn't know they were a TV show until a couple of years later when I saw them on PBS during the day during summer vacation.

I thought it was pretty funny how they would all line up to form a word and then bump into each other as they made their respective letter sounds.

I've tried to find them on the web, too, as I was trying to remember all of them myself.
