Subject: Back Home Mere Hours, And Already Asking Questions

Written By: Wicked Lester on 7/8/2000 at 11:40 p.m.

Okay, all of you with Masters degrees in the 80s line up for this one. There was a band called the Communards and they had, as I recall, one hit during the 80s. What was this song? TIA!

The two songs that made the top 40 charts are "So Cold The Night" and "Don't Leave Me This Way." This is some info I found on them.

The duo bowed in late 1985 with the Top 30 U.K. hit "You Are My World," the first of some 30-odd singles and EPs released during their relatively brief lifespan; a self-titled debut LP followed in 1986, as did the Communards' chart-topping remake of the Thelma Houston classic "Don't Leave Me This Way." After another U.K. Top Ten hit, "So Cold the Night," in 1987 they issued the Stephen Hague-produced Red, which featured their smash cover of Gloria Gaynor's "Never Can Say Goodbye." Despite their success, the Communards disbanded in 1988, and Somerville began a solo career.
