Subject: Worst 80's trends??

Written By: melissa on 7/17/2000 at 1:39 p.m.

Our local paper had a front page (the living section) article on how 80s fashions are making a huge comeback. Shoulder pads, "power chothing" etc. I've also seen similar articles in major magazines as well. Being a "child of the 80s" i think this is swell. I was wondering what trends you guys think were the WORST and hope never come back.

I for one still can't believe "mall bangs" were fashionable (and for so long). Mine weren't the highest in town, but they were pretty darn high! I will be very surprised if that trend resurfaces. All we have to do is look at pictures from 10 years ago to see how silly they looked. But then again we all thought we were SOO cool while re re-sprayed our hair between classes.

Would you do big hair again? What other trends can you remember that you hope will stay dead and buried?

Miss

I wish they would hurry up and bring back fringed clothing. My pink suede fringe jacket has been waiting patiently in the back of my closet for about 15 years now.

Well, seeing as I'm an 80s fashion nut, it's kinda hard to say, but I really hope holy jeans don't come back anytime soon! I always hated that look! I kinda hope acid washed jeans stay dormant for a few more years as well! But, if you want to see some COOL 80s trends that are trying to make their way back home, go to my 80s fashion website!!

Peace,
LP

Love this site.
Well, as for the 80's trends I'd like to see go away, (and never, ever come back) I'd have to say 'Mall bangs'. I never knew what they were called, but they looked pretty bad nonetheless.
What trends would I like to see come back? COLOR! Clothes (and everything else) were sooo colorful, so bright. Now everybody is so dour. Dark, black tees, Goth... Geeze! Where does it end? Everyone whereing sackcloth and ashes?
But I'm not so sure about the spandex.

Blessed be,
Hobbit

Spandex definitly can stay dead and buried as a trend. It's so disgusting watching fat people parade around in something skin tight.

I think the original music trend should come back in, and everyone should quit ripping off each other's songs, lyrics, and music!

I wasn't thinking of 'fat' people in Spandex only. I don't think it works on anybody--unless it's worn under something else to give a layered effect.
And yes, I miss 80s music terribly.
