Subject: stir crazy: the song

Written By: shereen on 7/17/2000 at 3:32 p.m.

I am desperate! Few months ago I heard a song in the movie "Stir Crazy" with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. However this song is sang by an overweighted, bolded, prison guy and it goes somehow like this:" Down in the valley, valley so low, hang your head over, here the wind blows. Here the wind blows, here the wind blows.
Hang your head over, here the wind blows.
Roses love sunshine, lilac love do.
Angels in heaven know I love you.
If you don't love me, love who you please....."
I have been looking for this song so long, but I had no chance to find it. Please if somebody knows the artist or the song then please, please tell me that!!!

The song is "Down In The Valley." Not sure who sings it in Stir Crazy (it has been done by several people, Solomon Burke and Otis Redding to name a few.) I would start with Solomon Burke.
