Subject: Name that 80s toy!!!

Written By: Cattrah on 7/21/2000 at 4:16 a.m.

ok I've had this little critter since they could be bought in stores. It went through all my brothers it was finnally about to be thrown out and I jumped on it and was like NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! lol. so anywhoo, I LOVE this little thing but I have no idea what it is. I always thought it was some spawn of transformer type toy. it's a cat that's motorized. when your turn it on it's red wings (when unfolded) flap, it's eyes glow, it's mouth opens and closes, it walks, the yellow compartment on it's back opens and a gun pops out and it shoots, and it's tail flops up and down. it's rather amusing. It was WELL loved and the gun doens't work anymore, it's wings tend to close themselves up from the bouncing (the hinges aren't as strong anymore, one of it's legs are half broke (it still walks though) and it has quite a bit of paint rubs. just please if anyone can help, let me know who this critter is, and if in it's condition is worth anything. thanks a whooooooole bunch!!!

Well I pretty much figured it out by the desc but the pic sealed if for me. What you have is the black lion (the main lion) of the 5 lion Voltron. The diecast Voltrons can be worth a lot complete and in good condition. Don't know how much the individuals sell for but the fact that it's motorized may up the price. To get an idea of what they sell for you might try searching in the transformer/voltron section of Ebay... BTW, I'm not sure of the motorized lion transforms, but if it does, it shout form the body of Voltron... the red and green lions would attach to the shoulders and the blue and yellow lions attach to the hind feet (which should fold up).

thanks a lot!! I found one on ebay although I don't guess it's worth too much cause it's better condition than mine and it only currently at 2.20!! man I had the lions castle too!! Mom got rid of it behind my back!! it's not fair!! Are any of the other 4 lions motorized like mine? all in all I think it's just the neatest thing! thanks again!! *goes play with her voltron black lion toy* heehee

Perhaps, perhaps not. They re-released the voltron toys about a year or two ago (possibly 3) so if the toy being auctioned is one of the new plastic toys rather than one of the original diecast toys it probably won't go for a lot (my wife managed to pick up a whole set of plastic lions at Toys R Us over Christmas).

Not sure about that. I never had the set myself cause I was busy collecting all the transformers. My friend had a complete diecast set but I don't think any of them were motorized. Course, it depends on what you mean by motorized. My wife's black lion has a pull release motor (you pull the lion back and let go, it launches off and fires the missile), and she says that all the other lions in her collection do the same so... I imagine the old ones do too.

unlike many teenagers, I love to do my research, I'm been searching about this toy quite a bit, it is not part of the set of 5 that transforms into the big scary dude. In fact I don't beleive it had any other lions like it's self, just the black one becuase it doens't transform (tried it, broke a leg, heehee) what I mean by motorized as in useing batteries. many times I've found on ebay and such the old and new sets of the lions and when carefully read about them being motorized it's not the same as mine. although I don't think it's a very common creature, for it's age and all, it's not that popular and I dont' beleive it was re released. anywhoo enough ramble, my auction to get a "new" one like mine is about to close. love peace and chicken grease!!
