Subject: Why no section just for sports in the 80's?

Written By: Just a Poster on 7/28/2000 at 5:06 a.m.

I saw three different sections on the site where people made note of the infamous 1986 World Series Game 6 misplay, and I wondered why there was no section dedicated solely to sports in the 80's.

If the webmaster is interested, here are some contributions I would make:

NFL:
1988 Super Bowl 9ers vs. Bengals (closest SB of the 80's)
1985 - The Chicago Bears infest pop culture
1982 Super Bowl Redskins vs. Dolphins (Riggins leads the Skins to a comeback)

College Football:
1984 Miami vs. BC (Doug Flutie)
198? Miami vs. Nebraska (Osborne goes for two in the end, a very ballsy move)
1988 Miami vs. Oklahoma

Hell Miami essentially defined college football in the 80's

Baseball:
1986 WS Game 6 incident (duly noted already)
1985 WS Game 6 Umpire Miscall costs Cardinals the series
1983 George Brett Pine-Tar Rampage

College Basketball:
1983 NCSU and Valvano's miracle title
1985 Villanova vs. Georgetown
1989 Michigan vs. Seton Hall (1 point overtime win, one of the closest basketball games ever played)

No NBA because I'm not a big fan, maybe some other folks might have some contributions

Thanks

I'm not much of a sports fan, so I really didn't want to start a section on something I know next to nothing about.. three mentions of Game 6 huh? guess being from around Boston, I end up knowing a little of the local sports lore

maybe I should throw up a voting question on the topic.. if there's enough interest in a sports section, I would consider it.. my brother is a huge sports fanatic, so I'm sure he could help guide me a little..

and it's not like I don't get a lot of support from site visitors... there's plenty on the 80s I didn't know (or remember) at the start of the site.. so I'm sure the info would flood in with enough time..

of course, sports are one of those topics that could take up a site unto themself.. so I am hestiant on starting one up.. I have a new site I've been wanting to start for a few weeks now, and I want to clear my schedule as much as possible to begin work on it (find some server space, begin nailing down features I want, coding, etc)

what kind of topics would I cover in a sports area of the site?

Famous games
Famous blunders
Famous players
Lists of various championships (who won the superbowl in 1986, etc)

and of course, I need to decide which sports to cover.. do I stick strictly to the US sports scene, maybe add in the Olympics as well, or do I branch out into Cricket and Soccer, etc.

and of course, considering my site demographics (66% female) maybe it won't be something the majority of site visitors want

so I guess what I'm saying is.. open for debate.. if I do it, it won't be for a few months at least..
