Subject: Some hard to find '80s hits on compilations

Written By: Andrew on 7/31/2000 at 9:16 a.m.

Here is a list of songs that I have been looking for. Some of them I realize can be found on some compilations, and others I have found on none. These are basically the songs that I can't find on decent compilations. The ones with stars on them are songs that I have found on no compilations:

Major Tom (Calling Home)/PETER SHILLING*
When Your Heart Is Weak/COCK ROBIN
All I Need Is A Miracle/MIKE & THE MECHANICS
Madam Butterfly/MALCOLM McLAREN*
Land Of Confusion/GENESIS* (haven't found any '80s Genesis songs on any compilations thus far, this must be one of those bands where you need to buy their Greatest Hits to get the real deal, but "Land of Confusion" is the only real song that I love)
They Don't Know/TRACEY ULLMAN
I Know There's Something Going On/FRIDA
Blue Monday & Bizzare Love Triangle/NEW ORDER
More Bounce To The Ounce/ZAPP & ROGER
More Than This/ROXY MUSIC (saw this song on the "200 Cigarettes" soundtrack, but it looks terrible)
You Can Call Me Al/PAUL SIMON*
Pop Goes The World/MEN WITHOUT HATS (only saw this song on one compilation so far!)
Shy Boy (Don't It Make You Feel Good)/BANANARAMA (one of Bananarama's best songs! Everywhere else I see "Venus" and "Cruel Summer")
Tarzan Boy/BALTIMORA (been looking for months!)
Take My Breath Away/BERLIN (trying to find an album to buy besides the "Top Gun" soundtrack)
Casanova/LEVERT
Rise Up/PARACHUTE CLUB (how come nobody ever mentions them?)
Back On The Chain Gang/PRETENDERS
Jack To The Sound Of The Underground/HITHOUSE* (I don't even know if anyone knows what I'm talking about when I mention this band)
All Night Long (All Night)/LIONEL RICHIE
My Girl (Gone Gone Gone)/CHILLIWACK*
The Look Of Love/ABC
Forever Young/ALPHAVILLE
The Stroke/BILLY SQUIER
I Don't Like Mondays/BOOMTOWN RATS
Stomp!/BROTHERS JOHNSON
Ain't Nobody/CHAKA KAHN
Sunglasses At Night/COREY HART (Believe it or not, it's true, there are no good compilations that I've seen with this song on it)
Church Of The Poison Mind/CULTURE CLUB
Bad Girls/DONNA SUMMER (I think it's a 70's song, but oh well)
Ah! Leah!/DONNIE IRIS
Point Of No Return/EXPOSE
I Got My Mind Set On You/GEORGE HARRISON*
Heaven In Your Eyes/LOVERBOY
Midnight Blue/LOU GRAMM
So Alive/LOVE & ROCKETS
Someday, Someway/MARSHALL CRENSHAW
Soul City/PARTLAND BROTHERS*
Love You Down/READY FOR THE WORLD
I Wanna Be Sedated/RAMONES
The Lover In Me/SHEENA EASTON*
Sidewalk Talk/MADONNA & JELLYBEAN*
Higher Love/STEVE WINWOOD
That's What Friends Are For/DIONNE WARWICK & FRIENDS* (I might as well put this one down, it brings back memories)
Drive/THE CARS
Rock Steady/THE WHISPERS*
Here I Go Again/WHITESNAKE
Wild Thing/TONE LOC*

That's basically the list, believe me, there's lots more, but this'll be good for now.

P.S. I'm am still trying to find information regarding the song, "Jack" by NANCY MARTINEZ, so if you have any info, please let me know.

I know I may have totally missed answers on this, but I wanted to say that "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora can be found on the compilation '1985 A Time To Remember', "I Know There's Something Going On" is on VH1's The Big 80's, and you can find both "They Don't Know" and "Major Tom (Coming Home)" on VH1's More of the Big 80's. I KNOW I have "I Don't Like Mondays" as well--but can't remember the name of the album just now. It is on a compilation as well.
Sorry if I'm repeating, I just wanted to help if I could! :o)

Baltimora's Jungle Boy can be found on a couple of movie soundtracks. The soundtrack to (ugh!) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III has two mixes on it, and the soundtrack to Beverly Hills Ninja also has the song. I bought the Ninja Turtles soundtrack for a buck at Half.com just for the song, and they've got other copies for sale ranging in price from $1.25 to about $8.00. Most unopened.

speaking of TMNT III, I bought a copy of Priority Records "Rock of the 80s, Volume 3" and it was actually the TMNT III soundtrack, the long box, cd covers, and the CD itself all said Rock of the 80s, but when you play the disc, you get Baltimoria, followed by some really awful music.. but at least I don't have to display a TMNT III soundtrack in my collection... it's a stealth copy!

Cool! I wish I had a stealth copy You're right, there is a lot of crap on the soundtrack. The only good thing is baltimora and the ZZ Top tune. Otherwise...

been awhile since I listened to it, I forgot all about ZZ Top even being on the soundtrack.. plus I don't exactly have an accurate track listing.. I should stick in my PC and see what the Internet databases pull up for a track listing

Here ya go; your very own track listing I would say print it out and put it with your cd, but it wouldn't really be stealth then...

1. Tarzan Boy - Baltimora
2. Can't Stop Rockin' - ZZ Top
3. Rockin' Over The Beat - Technotronic/Ya Kid K
4. Conga - Barrio Boyzz
5. Turtle Jam - Psychedelic Dust/Loose Bruce
6. Fighter - Definition Of Sound
7. Yoshi's Theme - John Du Prez/Ocean Music
8. Turtle Power - Partners In Kryme
9. Tarzan Boy - Baltimora (remix)
10. Rockin' Over The Beat - Technotronic with Ya Kid K (rockin' over Manchester hacienda remix)
