Subject: Same vocalist question??

Written By: Aj on 8/4/2000 at 1:59 a.m.

I have a question that is part 70s and part 80s,
who was the lead vocalist for the group Heatwave that had hits "Always & Forever" and "Boogie Nights" (which I feel was the greatest disco song ever and why wasnt it included in the movie with its namesake)? The 80s part of the question is, was the lead vocalist that replaced Lionel Richie of the Commodores that scored a hit with "Nightshift" the former lead on those Heatwave hits? Follow?

Thanks! Aj

Hi Aj

Johnnie Wilder (who founded the group in 1975 with his brother Keith) was the original vocalist on both of those Heatwave hits. The band went through a bad patch (the guitarist was stabbed to death, another left after a bad car crash, and Johnnie Wilder was paralysed in another crash...)
He remained with the group as a producer and studio vocalist, but was replaced for live gigs by J D Nicholas...who in turn joined The Commodores in 1984.

So yes, part 70s and part 80s !
