Subject: Need help identifying early 80s song

Written By: Fred on 9/6/2000 at 5:25 p.m.

I am trying to recall and track down the identity of an early 1980s new wave song that I really liked, and remembered from the early 1980s. I last remember hearing it quite a bit in 1983 or 1984 at FSU, Tallahassee, but I don't know who or what it is. I think some of the lyrics may have went something like "Run away....run away....You're just a runaway...running away..." or It could have been "I'm In love I'm in love....I'm in love with you." It had all female vocals, and sounded a little like either Nena, Kim Wilde, Romeo Void, Frida, or Eye to Eye, but upon searching and listening, I didn't find any such song titles for these groups yet and I don't think it's The Eurhymics although at first I thought it might be. Annie Lennox's voice pitches too sharply up & down, but it does sound a little like her. Somebody thought it might be a 1983 Prelude release "Runaway" by "One-Two-Three" but when I listened to 2 different cuts under that name, they definetly weren't it, possibly mislabeled or a different piece with a similar title. One thing that would be of a big help to me would be a Complete list of ALL the female vocalist groups and their songs that were released from 1982 to 1984. I don't believe this song ever made the top 10, I don't know about the top 40. This song was a fairly soft new wave piece, nothing hard or rock & roll about it.

while I don't have any idea about the song you're talking about, I *DO* have a list of all the female vocalists of the 80s.. that is, of the majority of people who were popular (if it wasn't very popular, you might still be out of luck) it's not broken down by year, but you might want to look through it anyways

Chuck,
Thank you, that list will help me a lot, with using process-of-ellimination of what it isn't, even if I still can't track down the song. Even though the list is not broken into years, I have a pretty good idea of what corresponds to what year and it looks like a pretty good list. The lyrics may not be anything close to what I remembered, but they do rhyme with many different possible lyrics for example: "Run away" could sound just like "Dance away" or "I'm in love." I did notice that the list is missing a few songs like Eye to Eye "Nice girls." I've already sampled and listened to many 80s songs online, but still haven't found The song. The song sounds a little like parts of Eye to Eye "Nice Girls" but the problem is I have had no luck locating any other song titles by that group, and boolian searches for "Eye to Eye" don't work, because I end up getting results like "Third eye blind" In the past, I have been successful locating other 80s new wave songs that weren't extremely popular and probably didn't make the top 40, but this may be a tough one without knowing the exact lyrics or title.

If I have no luck online, I could consider calling the DJ at our local community alternative radio station, WMNF 88.5 FM in Tampa FL and ask for which DJ is the 1980s expert, then talk to that DJ, and possibly even get permission to visit the station and look at their CDs or LPs. I could try to hum the song. They aren't a big commercial station, and are funded via public funds and private donations, and they are some very nice people. I would of course be more than happy to make a donation.
