could anyone tell me the year that Iko Iko by the Belle Stars was in the charts please?

This is sort of a trick question, because the song was actually a hit twice here in the U.S. When "Iko Iko" originally appeared on The Belle Stars' self-titled debut album in the Spring of '83, it became a minor hit, although it officially failed to crack the pop charts. ("Sign of the Times", off that same album, actually proved to be the bigger hit - it did make the charts!)

Six years later, in the Spring of '89, a slightly different version of "Iko Iko" became a moderate hit when released as a single off the soundtrack to the movie "Rain Man" (starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise). At that time, it garnered much more radio airplay...

Since the song proved to be a much bigger hit the second time around, your definitive answer would be the Spring of '89. Hope this helps...
