Subject: What is everybody's favorite 80's year???

Written By: Andrew on 9/11/2000 at 4:46 p.m.

I know this is somewhat of an odd yet original question, but I had to ask it regardless. Tell me you guys, WHAT IS EVERYBODY'S FAVORITE 80'S YEAR??? I'm obsessed with the year, 1988 for some reason. I don't know why. It was the first year I started school maybe (Yes, I realize, I'm very young). I guess I just like the songs from that year. Songs such as Baby I Love Your Way/Freebird Medley (Free Baby) by Will To Power, Hold On To The Nights by Richard Marx, Don't Shead A Tear by Paul Carrack, Wild Wild West by the Escape Club, Seasons Change by Expose, Shattered Dreams by Johnny Hates Jazz, The Flame by Cheap Trick, So Emotional by Whitney Houston, Walk The Dinosaur by Was (Not Was), Fast Car by Tracy Chapman, there are so many more, but those are just a few. I'm also fascinated by the clothing of that year: neon-coloured scrunchies, hockey hair, the sneakers with the stars on them, and so on... 1988 was such a mysterious year, maybe because nothing really interesting happened in the world that year. It just seems to intruige me more and more when I think about it. Name me your favorite year.

Several years have significance for me 1984 because my brother was born and I was 4 years old and just starting to take notice of the world, there were some great music, Queen, Wham, Culture Club etc...and I remember most things from this point on like the Ewoks craze after Return of the Jedi and Band Aid/Live Aid. The second year in 1988/89 as I was starting to have opinions of my own on stuff ie I had my own faverite bands and didn't just like whatever record my parents played. I was old enough to understand films so saw Star Wars trilogy for the 1st time. I started Middle School(British equivlent to Juinor High) and I moved from London(UK)where I was born to Glasgow(Scotland)which was a total life change. Also the music was good around this time Tiffany "I think were alone now" and Kylie Minouge (Australian actress now famous for singing) "I should be so Lucky" Now 20 years on I realise what fun the 80's really were as a child compared to being a teenager in the 90's and an adult in 2000.

My favorite year was 1983. some really great songs came out that year. also return of the Jedi, I saw it 8 times, no joke. I remember the summer very well. It was the year that I moved to the house where I have all my fondest childhood memories. It was the year that the song Africa by Toto came out it's not my favorite song but ranks up there, That song always evokes so many memories. This question was so hard, because I had such a great time every year of the eighties!
