Subject: ??? for DJ Midas

Written By: TX on 9/13/2000 at 5:51 p.m.

This should probably be on the 90's board, but this is my home.

Anyone can answer this, I just thought DJ Midas might know. On the song "Rollin In My 5.0" by Vanilla Ice the version I hear/heard in clubs is not the same as the one I get off Napster. The one I get off Napster is live (I guess it's off Extremely Live), and samples Steve Miller Bands "Fly Like An Eagle". They are not the same song at all. What is the deal?????????

Have you heard the new song that samples "Rollin In My 5.0" I heard it in a club last weekend.

Hey TX, I appreciate that you consider me knowledgeable enough to answer your question. Unfortunately, I wasn't a huge Vanilla Ice fan back in the day, So I'm not too familiar with "Rollin'". My guess is (and I may be way off) is that the version you heard in the clubs could be a special remix put out on 12" single or Maxi-CD (is this song on his "To The Extreme" album also?).

On an intangible note, I played the '86 Remix of Pet Shop Boys' "West End Girls" in my set last night at Five-O and cleared the floor. It's more uptempo (similar to the Bobby O mix, which is the first version of the song I heard; the '86 has the PSB Theme in the intro). I mixed it in after the Pain Mix of DM's "Strangelove" (which had the dance floor packed); the radio version/pettibone mixes were too slow. Oh well, I should have gone with "Opportunities"...
