Subject: Sussanah song

Written By: Tarzan Boy on 9/25/2000 at 1:56 p.m.

I got the Kool & The Gang cd - no luck (I liked the song "Joanna" though). The Lou Reed song, "I Love You, Suzanne" is not the song I was looking for (I asked a girl in my chem class about it and she sang it kind of fast-paced and upbeat - and even if it wasn't, I don't think that is the song I'm searching for). The Kinks' song, "Sussanah Is Still Alive" is a 1987 song (from the cd case date) - I'm curious about it (maybe I'll buy it next week). What has me more worked up and desperate is that someone at work has heard the song as well and remembers it as much as I do. He also says it's in the 1980-1984 timeline (around the time "Careless Whisper" was being played, while I remember it being played around the time of "Owner Of A Lonely Heart," which the "Sussanah" song bears a great resemblance to in its downbeat chorus). If I soung a bit agitated is that I tried to search Tower Records's database for a song with the title/word "Susannah" and I've must've gotten at least 500 songs - ranging from Bluegrass/Folk, Vocal, Pop/ Rock, Dance/Techno, Spanish, World, Classical, etc...AAAAAAA...Help....Ahem... Thank You for your time and suggestions.

I have no idea, but I found you another "Susannah" song to check out. It is by Trip Shakespeare. I looked for a date but came up empty. All the Trip Shakespeare stuff I found was late 80's or early 90's. None of it had "Susannah" on it though.

I found it on Napster. It is slow and has some OOOOHHHHHHHS in the background.

I don't remember any song about a Sussanah....although I remember "Roseanna" (by Toto I think?). Good luck on your search!

Yes, the song "Rosanna" is by Toto - I love that song a lot as well as "Africa" (and others). Unfortunately, "Rosanna" is not the song. The singer of the "Susannah" song sounds mellow while Toto's singer sounds whiny (excellent singer, nonetheless). I can compare the singer of "Susannah" to the singer from Yes (all the names of these singers escape my mind), especially in "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" (the downbeat chorus and electric guitars) and, to some extent, Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music in the Avalon album ("More Than This," to be more precise). Thank you for the suggestion.

It does. Morpheus gave me the same suggestion and a link to the lyrics page - the lyrics fit my vague memory of it. Finding the song is a quest in itself, since no record store carries it. Finally, I tried the 1-800-ask-tower number and special ordered an import cd (Hits Of The 80's @$9.99 + S&H). I told them to Fed-Ex it and should be getting my trembling hands on it by Friday (ahhhh, Friday, I'm In Love...). Thank you very much.
