Subject: Is it just me, or is 80's fashion coming back???

Written By: Andrew on 10/1/2000 at 11:56 a.m.

Everywhere I go, I see people with big poofy hair, with diamond-stud belts, and red Michael Jackson leather jackets. I'm also seeing skinny plastic belts, and dark indigo-coloured denim. Big beaded necklaces are also popular, and also leather strap bracelets. I think we're approaching the resurrection of the 1980/81/82 era right about now (I don't think people are ready for the acid-washed just yet). I know this sounds crazy, but I'm getting really excited. I've waited so long for the 80's to come back, and I think we're approaching the reincarnation. What do you guys think?

I was driving past a college campus the other day and saw, guess what....a pair of stonewashed jeans. It was just a glimpse...but I'm pretty sure. I was just getting used to my first fashion come-back of which I remembered the orignial (I was just a little kid in the 60's but remember those bell bottoms). I'll really feel weired if the 80's stuff really does come round.

Check out this month's "Cosmopolitan" magazine. They are doing a fashion spread on 80's themed clothing, and how it's making a comeback. At least *some* designers are trying, even if what's out there is a little out of my price range yet.

Entertainment Weekly (weakly) also published a one page article on the resurgance of broad shouldered dresses, etc. the 80s are definately bubbling under right now.. though the EW article did bash Member Only jackets and skinny ties... one of my personal favs.. so I guess only the women are getting to experience the retro stuff.. and men are supposed to still dress like they don't know how to dress.. (not that I mind leaving my clothes in the dryer for a week, but then again.. I was never really doing it for the sake of fashion >grin<)

ready to finally push this awful 70s retro stuff off the market (thank god, if I see another person with platform shoes and bell bottoms I'm just going to start pointing and laughing as hard as I can) don't get me wrong, I loved 70s music (some of it anyways, Zeppelin, Sabbath, the metal gods as they were) and I could watch Starsky and Hutch and M*A*S*H ad neausum, but the clothes? ugh.. glad I was too young for that stuff..
